Nicole's white blood cell count was too low, so they told her she couldn't get her treatment today - she has to come back next Friday. So, add another week onto the treatment schedule.
I've been wondering how she was doing Steve!!!! Hang in there....it is better that she wait the week and get her counts back up again.....are they giving her some medication to help stimulate the counts to go up????
I remember my 'relative' had her white blood cell count taken once a week. I think that she had to skip a few treatments, but it didn't matter in the end, because she was still cured, or in remission permanently.
I think she was given a combination of three different drugs. Cyto killers? It may be a different mix for your wife!
Dec99 -- Yep, I think they gave her a shot of something to help with her white blood count. They already give her a shot of Procrit each week to help out with her anemia (that she's had even before her first chemo treatment).
I'm sure the waiting part is very difficult, but you just have to believe that the doctors are doing what they believe is the best thing for her. Try and keep those spirits up--we are all pulling for her.
That blood count is so very important. I remember Marie taking her Neupogen shots after each chemo session to build them back up after the chemo knocked them down.
Snoopy -- today was to be her second treatment, the end of her first round of chemo.
Jill -- I fully agree with you. There's a good reason they check her blood counts every week and I'm sure that if they sent her home, it's because the chemo would have done more harm than good. We've got excellent doctors and nurses, and we trust their judgement fully.
The first treatment went pretty well. She had a slight bit of nausea, but otherwise, the only other side-effect she had was sores in her mouth, but they prescribed a mouthwash to her which helped out. So far, she hasn't lost any hair yet, but we figure it's coming soon.
Hi Steve,
I have been following your wife's story for a little while, but I haven't posted to you before. I just wanted to let you know that your family is in my thoughts, and I pray that everything turns out for the best! {{{{{hugs}}}}}
