It's been 3 years since I've been to Disneyland:scared1:. Last time DH and I were there, Chef Oscar from Carnation Cafe was on a leave of absence. Does anyone know if he's still there or did he finally retire after 50+ years?

We saw him last November. I think the last I heard he was only there at lunchtime (maybe only during the week too?). Love Oscar! :lovestruc

Great to hear! DH will be so excited. That's one of our musts every trip, ride POTC, Space Mountain, eat a chimmichanga, and go say hi to Chef Oscar!:goodvibes

Now, if we can just find the time to get down there.

I noticed him there in March. He was standing in the crowd, watching the window dedication ceremony for the Sherman Brothers.

We asked about him when we were there the last week of April. He was on vacation and was scheduled to return the following week. Such a cute man. :goodvibes

We ate at the CC twice during our last stay 3 weeks ago, once for lunch and once for breakfast, he visited with us on both occasions. Great guy!

He came to our table when we had bfast at the CC, let's see......that was in December for DD's 10th bday trip. :)

I was there the 1st week of June for breakfast and he was greeting all of the tables. Him and i actually had a nice little conversation because he has a skin disorder that i have also called vitiligo. He was sooo cute it was our 1st time eating there too and he makes that place even more special! ;)

He was there on a Wed. in March 2010 and gave us a signed recipe for his loaded potato cheese soup when we told him how much we LOVE his soup! He started explaining to me how to make it, and then I asked if he would mind telling my husband, as he is the chef at our house. He was happy to tell my husband. My husband made the soup from the recipe in Dec. on my Birthday and it was spot on! Awesome, excellent recipe, but the thing about Oscar is that...

You feel like he's your Grandpa or something - he has a genuine love for meeting all people in the parks. He came around to our table several times, and was soooo good with the kids, too!! Wow, such warmth and genuine friendliness that makes you feel like you just arrived back at home. Amazing man.

I heard that Chef Oscar won an award recently... does anyone know what that award might have been? Someone from Disney Dining told me he had won an award.

I'm going in August. Can you please share about Chef Oscar and why he's so special?

Chef Oscar is one of the longest, if not the longest CM at Disneyland today as he started in October of 1956. He is the nicest person you will meet at the park. He visits all of the tables at CC and makes every guest feel special, never too busy to stop and talk to you. Even if you don't see him, ask a CM if he's there, and he's more than happy to come out and say hello to you.

I coulda swore in December he told us he was a few days away from his 54th anniversary there. But anyways, he still comes in early to prep for breakfast. He let's "the young guys" handle the lunch/dinner prep.

I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.:lmao:

You'd only be off by a couple of months...I guess after 54 years what's a few months? I really want to say it'll be 55 years on Dec. 27 this year.

I am pretty sure he told us he had been there 54 years (or almost 54 years) when we were there last November. 54 definitely rings a bell! :goodvibes

My daughter and I love Oscar, he always remembers us when we go. The last time that I was there, which was in March, he asked me where my daughter was and I told him that I left her home this time but she'd be there the next month. We also never have to wait in line to be seated, when he sees us he just gets us a table. And he always checks to see if she ate her whole breakfast (she is 19 by the way).

Oscar told us that they made him retire for about a month but then he could come back and work part-time, though it seems he's always there when we go. LOL

We ate at Carnation today. I am always so impressed that he comes to every table. We saw him today during our 12:00 PS. :)
