looking at somewhere to go for my 30th birthday next year and also be suitable for the children. Is it still as good as it was years ago. I haven’t been there since I was about 12. We stopped going as a family due to the birds getting in from the monorail. Is this still a problem. Just want it to be special without the cost been too much.

It wouldn't be my choice for a birthday, but if seeing the characters is your priority then it's a good choice. The food is marginally acceptable IMHO. There are many other restaurants that have better food for the money.

We've done breakfast 3 times and dinner once. Breakfast was much better food than dinner. I don't remember ever seeing birds in the restaurant.

We've been there for breakfast and thought it was good. Just typical breakfast foods you would expect, but everything was tastey. I thought the characters were cute and spent ample time at the tables. Your kids will like it and I suppose you'd have a better birthday if your kids were happy :) I'd go back for my birthday!

IMHO, the food is quite bad and it's one of the pricier character meals. It wouldn't be my choice for a birthday meal, but it depends on what you are looking for. If you want a character meal, there are others with better food.

I wouldn’t pick it for my birthday. It’s ok. We’ve eaten there every trip with the kids, but I was really disappointed last time, with both food and service.

Thankyou for the feedback. Been a very long time and because I loved it as a child I thought mine would love it but things change in time and we only remember them for the characters and waving napkins in the air been young at the time. I couldn’t remember what choice of food there was on an evening. Thinking about the dining plan next time and chef mickeys is included so I thought it would be a little bonus

If you want good character interaction and good buffet food, try Minnie's seasonal dinner at Hollywood and Vine. I was really surprised at how much we liked it after seeing years of it listed as eew. Everything was hot and fresh, even close to the end of the night. The butternut squash soup at the Christmas party was drool worthy. You don't get the waving napkins like at Chef Mickey's, but it is a much better buffet.

We eat there every year at Christmas and there is nothing wrong with it. I wouldn't necessarily choose it as a birthday meal though ... there are a lot of other places that are better IMO. Also, everywhere at Disney is pretty much suitable for children, so don't let that hold you back from making a reservation somewhere. My kids have eaten everywhere with the exception of Victoria & Albert's.

Chef Mickey's is towards the bottom of my Disney restaurant list- the food is mediocre at best and the character interactions leave a lot to be desired. I'd recommend almost any other character meal over Chef Mickey's.

I would never go there again if paying out of pocket--it is just so expensive, it always runs really behind with loooong waits for the table, and the food is really not very good. On the dining plan, it might be worth it just for nostalgia value.

Our Ratings of Chef Mickey's:
. . . food price value: D
. . . food quality: D
. . . food quantity per serving: A
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: B
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: B
. . . eatery atmosphere: C
. . . eatery convenience: B
. . . staff friendliness: C
. . . staff attentiveness: C
. . . character interaction: C

NOTE1: As with most character meals, you are paying for the characters, and possibly atmosphere, but not the food.
.
NOTE2Food is ample, but quality only average or even slightly below. Unfortunately, we believe the food quality has gone down hill significantly. During this visit, characters really breezed through, and did not spend a lot of time with the children. Even with our opinion that CM has gone downhill, this meal took the bar even below our dreams. We saw one person refer to it as "Chef Icky's".

Teehee, Chef Icky’s. That just really tickles me. Going to start thinking of some similar variations for my other “never again” restaurants. Maybe “Be Our Bleh-est” and “Jungle Navigation Skipper Can’t-Eat”

I only ate dinner once and truthfully it seemed like really bad cafeteria food.

Chef mickeys is such a great place to go for birthdays, its fun for both adults and children. I especially love when the characters come and visit your table. The desserts there are fantastic and each time I visit the quality never changes.

We have had two good experiences for dinner there. Food was good, not great, but contained everything we expected. Desserts were fantastic, kids buffet was great, characters were great, and the price is still outrageous but I say that for every Disney restaurant. We would not hesitate to go back.

Boy, is dining personal! We liek Chef Mickey, and have alwyas enjoyed our dinners there. It is buffet, true, but DIsney DIning is way more than just food for us. OP- It is not going to be the same to your adult palate as it was as a kid, however I bet if nostalgia is what you are looking for, this will be a great birthday choice.

Yes! This is a sweet meal with characters.
