When we stayed at CR last January we were told by Club staff that resort guests could walk up to Chef Mickeys and get priority seating. Is this still true and has anyone tried it?

Sounds doubtful. Club Level guests may have an in, but I wouldn't count on it for any other room booking.

I've never heard of anything like this before unless it's something brand new. There are last-minute cancellations sometimes, but I wouldn't count on it.

Just getting a ressie at 170 days out can be next to impossible. I wouldn't rely on this strategy for CM.

I wonder if they tell this to folks on a regular basis. I overheard a very upset man at the CM check in stating the same thing and was really ticked off when they were telling him they were full and not taking walk ups.

1) Frequently, the Concierge can get people in at THEIR OWN resort.
2) We do it often . . . examples:
. . . CR Concierge for Chef Mickey
. . . WL Concierge for WCC
. . . GF Concierge for 1900 Park Fare
3) Usually, they call ahead and the eatery makes an ADR for the hotel guest, or even a walk-up.
4) But, there is no provision for resort guests or Club Level resort guests to just walk up and get entry on their own.

NOTE: If you get the Concierge with the Dining Override Code, the Concierge can get you into any eatery, on any day, at any time, for any party size. The only exceptions are capacity-limited eateries (eg. HDDR, Luau, V&A, etc).

I was having coffee in the lounge at the Grand, watching a guest go bat crap crazy because he was not granted access to 1900 PF for breakfast.....after all he was staying Club level and paid for that priviledge. The Cm was gracious, called down and then informed the guest that everyone has the opportunity to book their meals ahead of time, so sorry he chose not to do so....and then ordered him a plate of bacon! He was pretty mad, but I bet had he been at least a little nice he may have gotten a different result...I think he should have been embarrassed.

A few years ago, similar situation at the Beach Club.....but this time the guest was pitching a fit because her family could not get a package for CP...with NPH! I am not sue where people get teh idea that all you need to do is bellow and your every wish will be granted by the concierge staff, but I wish that notion would disappear. Every guest who enters a resort has paid for their stay, and I find it rude that some feel they are more entitled to their vacation than others. AS a woman who has made her living in one form of customer service or another since I was 14, it I cringe when I see this behavior.

Well...this a little off topic so forgive me. We were at a signature restaurant. A guy was with two women. The one woman brought out the chef because she had an allergy. She was a bit embarrassed. The guy said don't worry that's what they're paid to do. Because we're paying all this money they need to cater to us. Honestly as person who worked in service I was highly offended. But not surprised. I wondered how she ate outside Disney?

It is this attitude that I blame for so many of the "extra's" disappearing. I also get petty peeved when a guest claims to have an allergy in order to get preferential treatment in regards to "special" foods. My DHD suffered from dairy and egg allergies and the care she was given made WDW our go to vacation destination. WHen someone abuses that trust, you know that eventually Disney may need to react and make changes. I see red when I read that someone claims an allergy to get the millet bread...all she needed to do was ask.

Instead of trying a walk-up, I think your best bet may be to try making an ADR the day before. A lot of people change their plans last minute and don't want to pay the penalty. I have been able to get chef mickey's the day before. I also have cancelled pre-park opening CP the night before because we were tired out and needed to sleep in.

Wow! No need to bash the food allergy people. With life threatening allergies, outside of Disney we do the same thing. Not because they HAVE to but because it will keep my son alive. Actually, normally I map out where we will eat, comb the menu online, call the manager 2 days ahead of time during non rush times. Then again talk to a manager when we arrive. I hate that I need to talk through this with so many but an always gracious and appreciative.

I don't think the food allergy people are the problem, I think the point was when the lady was being gracious talking to the chef her partner was acting in a rude fashion. WDW does an awesome job of working with people with food allergies. Others without allergies sometimes try to exploit that service to get something that is not on their menu.

not true. Resort guests don't have a better chance at walking up than anybody else. Maybe talk to the resort concierge at the front desk about last minute reservations...

Dont' think the previous guest was bashing the allergy people, but the guy who brought up the money. Disney will work with allergies whether you are spending a bazillion dollars on your trip and staying in the biggest suite at the Grand Floridian, or you are staying at the local Days Inn and drove in for dinner.

Not seeing where that had anything to do with guests who claim they have allergies either because they want to get a preference met without any fuss or because they want to throw their weight around by having the chef prepare something for them. They do exist but not in huge numbers. And the restaurant has to assume the allergy is for real.

Yeah, my assumption would be that CL guests who work with their CL concierge might have an advantage on getting same-day reservations at certain restaurants. Some resort concierges (the general access ones) might be able to make things happen, if you're nice.

But the ranty and entitled resort guest happens everywhere. See also: the Ohana podium.

Please, if my post looked like I was bashing the allergy people, forgive me. Nothing would be further from that. My dgd benefited from the commitment that Disney chefs have made to provide EVERYONE with safe food. Kady no longer needs that survival attention that was required to keep her safe, and I thank God for that.

I must say that there are people who are telling these hard working diligent chefs that they suffer allergies in order to gain a preference for meals. I read one woman ckaimed a gluten allergy because her dd wanted the Millet bread at BOG, but then wanted the pastry plate. Another planned to tell the chef at Cape May about several allergies in order to have a meal cooked to order. Charlatans who abuse the system in place that helps so many can ruin this as well. These practices are the ones I abhor.

I remember the one who was pre-ordering at BOG and wanted the millet bread and couldn't figure out any other way to get it than declaring a gluten allergy. But then they wanted the pastry plate. Of course once you say you have an allergy, then the restaurant will treat you as if the allergy is real. They have no other choice, because allergies can be life-threatening. The restaurant is not going to challenge the declaration of an allergy, so anybody who really wants to do this is going to get away with it, but they're also not going to allow the guest to ask for items they just said they are allergic to. So no pastry plate for you, you will get the gluten free version of everything. How badly did you really want that millet bread.

it should have been easy enough to ask for the bread once arrived, but the poster was worried they would have to wait instead of getting fast service via pre ordering. But that is what you need to risk for special orders. Especially at BOG where the point is get 'em served and move 'em out.
