Of these two for dinner, which would you prefer for the food and atmosphere. The characters won't factor into our decision, as we'll probably just wave them on when they approach our table. I thought Chefs would be great for the concourse action, but wonder if the food at CP would be better (plus it's right in MK). Decisions, decisions ...

We have eaten at both places and we love Chef Mickeys! That will be our first restaurant on our next Disney Trip!!! That place is so much fun! Don't wave the character on by...get a quick hug!!!

I haven't dined at Chef Mickey's, but we had dinner at Crystal Palace this past Monday night and it was my favorite meal of the trip. It was also my kid's favorite. My kids are 9 and 10, so the characters didn't factor into our decision either. We just all loved the food there. There is such a HUGE selection and it isn't like your typical buffet. Everything tastes as good as the food you'd get at a TS restaurant, but you have a lot more ability to sample!!!

The desserts were also wonderful...best desserts I've ever seen at a buffet!

First off, I suggest letting the characters visit. You'll be surprised how fun it is even for adults.

On to the food. I had a good experience at both. Sometimes one has more deluxe items, sometimes the other. Sometimes one is better, sometimes the other. Both have those that swear by them, and those that swear at them. I have had good food at both and was pleasantly surprised for the better at both.

Now to the atmosphere. Crystal Palace is a bit more reserved. Tigger usually clowns around a bit, but the others really can't get away with too much of that and remain in character. I noticed the characters seemed to expect hugs from the little ones here. They were well prepared for it. Chef Mickey's is a bit more upbeat and the characters will clown around with adults too
.
On to the setting: Chef Mickey's is about 2/3 in the open concourse which is a great setting. If you get the back room (about 1/3 of the tables) it's pretty much just a standard low ceiling room. So if you go, make sure you get a table in the open concourse with a view of the monorail.
The Crystal Palace is a conservatory setting and is beautiful in nearly every seat in the house.

Each does a little activity from time to time.
Chef Mickey's has the napkin twirling where one of the characters goes to each section and everyone twirls their napkins around and around while a song plays.
Crystal Palace has a kiddie parade round the inner tables of each side. It's cute.

Hope that helps.

Our last trip in November we ate at both for dinner. It is a toss up between the 2. I think I liked the food selection slightly better at CP and the atmosphere there is great. It is a very nice place. CM is a bit more playful.

Our next trip in June we are doing CP for breakfast, but don't have CM booked (we're doing Concourse Steakhouse at The Contemporary instead). DW was a bit disappointed as Chef Mickey's is one of here favorite places to eat (she LOVES the roast beef)

Crystal Palace has much better food. I like it better for breakfast, too, but CM's comes close on breakfast. Dinner isn't even close - Crystal Palace.

CP is a lovely restaurant, with plants and stained glass. Chef Mickey's is a bunch of tables at the end of the Contemporary's concourse.

Character interaction is always much better at CP, too. But you said you didn't care.

Thanks, guys. I think we're gonna go with Crystal Palace, mainly for the food and because it's right there in the park. Just wish I knew what to do when the characters come up ... our teens will be 15 and 17 and aren't into that at all. We won't be interacting but I don't want to be rude either ...

My kids are 9 and 10, so they weren't really into the characters anymore either. They just said hello to the characters and I took a quick picture because it was cute. The characters know how to act with each age group. With young kids they act like their character and the little kids think it's all real. With the older kids and adults they act a little goofy and try to get you to laugh at them. For example, Tigger tried to steal my daughter's beverage at CP and it made us all laugh.
