Chef Mickey's and Magical Express question

Hi - I am running the marathon on January 7th and have lunch booked for our family of 4 afterwards at Chef Mickey's for 2:30. We have nothing else planned this day except to fly out of MCO at 6:30pm.

Am I going to have any problem getting back to POFQ from Chef Mickey's in time to get our Magical Express bus? I assume it will take us 60-90 minutes to eat, so leaving by 4pm, which makes me worried about getting back to POFQ on a MK resort bus by our ME call time. I guess we can Uber, but is that still cutting it too close?

Your DME bus will be scheduled to leave sometime between 3:15 and 3:45. You need to be at the platform, completely ready to go, 15 minutes before that, so you should be planning on getting back to the resort about 2:30.

Long story short, no you absolutely do not have time.

A car service, or Uber Lyft, from contemporary to MCO would give you an hour, maybe 90 minutes to dine. I'd cancel the reservation.

Alesia is absolutely right. Your DME pickup time is actually before the time you would finish eating given a 2:30 ADR and 6:00 flight time. Doesn't matter what transportation method you use you can't make it. And the DME time is when the bud is scheduled to leave the resort and you need to be there at least 15 minutes before.

I agree with Alesia - and to build on that, you need all of the time allotted with Magical Express. On our most recent trip a couple of weeks ago, security was backed up and looped around the shopping/dining area in the airport. It took 40 minutes to get to the front of the line, then more time to get through actual security screening, and we made it to our gate less than 10 minutes before boarding began for our group.

This wasn't the norm, we're usually at our gate in plenty of time with no panic, but I was really sweating it this time around. You should be prepared for any scenario at the airport.

I fifth everyone else. No way, no how do you make a 2:30ADR (ANYWHERE on property) and make a 6pm flight without a lot of stress.

BEST CASE (assuming you have all your luggage with you):
2:30P: Seated
3:15P: Finished eating
3:30P: Everything gathered, get Lyft/Uber or cab to MCO
4:15P: Arrive at MCO
4:30P: Arrive security (assuming no bags to check)
5:15P: Through security
5:30P: Arrive at gate (boarding already started).

There is NO WAY I try to do that.

I agree with everyone else on DME but I’m not so much against other modes of transportation given your timing constraints. We usually take a car service and it always picks us up on Disney property 2 hours before our flight time. I’ve never had a problem at all.

If it works for you and your plan/logistics, I’d have no qualms about eating at Chef Mickey’s then taking an uber/lyft/cab to the airport.

MCO recommends getting to airport 3 hours before domestic flights because of massive back ups at security with new security measures. DME should be adjusting pick up times accordingly. If they haven’t, call and have pick up time moved to earlier.
