Chef Mickey and construction noise

When my family and I just stayed at the Contemporary they were not doing any construction in the afternoon, so you will have no problems while at Chef Mickey's.

Was there on Aug. 28th and no noise problems. The construction did make it less attractive and the food was just ok. As always the character interactions were great.

I haven't heard the loud construction noise in the CR in the last couple of weeks (a few weeks back, it was terrible).

We endured a solid hour of jackhammering during breakfast but when passing thru CR at 5pm all the workers were gone. Doesn't mean it still can't happen to you. Just go armed with the knowlege that only those who complained that morning received any discount off the bill. Those who did not complain paid the full price as someone else who received a quiet meal on another day, they did not offer to make the matter right.

So, what's the current status of the construction? Our CM breakfast is at 9:50am in 12 days...It's supposed to be our big "welcome to the World" breakfast with our kiddos...I'll be so bummed if it's ruined by saws and jackhammers.

Come on Chef Mickey's is loud, bright and busy. How in the world could some construction noise even be distinguished there.

We loved Chef Mickey's with all the noise of the guests, characters, staff, plates, music, monorail, etc. it is just loud. Consider any construction noise an additional soundtrack and it will blend in.

The pounding of jackhammers through a cavernous building can overwhelm even Chef Mickeys.

When I did hear it, the noise practically hurt (with all the vibrations).

Just adding a little levity. Also seems its not the noise, but he vibrations that were annoying to you.

We had dinner a few weeks ago at Chef Mickey around 7:00pm. We didn't notice any construction noise.

Spoken like a true person who hasn't experienced it!!!

You would have to hear it to believe it. It's not the gleeful rowdy noises to which you elude. They closed down part of the seating area that was adjacent to the construction wall, but it was still the first thing I mentioned to the check in attendant and he complained he'd already taken some aspirin and was on his third straight hour (I did not have previous warning to the situation like all these smart dis readers but have done my best to forewarn others). I asked DD9 at the end of the meal if she was bothered by it because she had not said a word (I was not going to ruin the meal by constantly complaining at our table) she quickly replied with a hearty head shake and said "of course, that's terrible". After my complaints to the manager, my waitress told me they were all shocked that Disney had choosen this restaurant to open up for lunch during free dining. I guess that's what Disney would like to offer for FREE, you get what you pay for.

I know CM is loud to begin with, but I thought the noise on that video was a little much, but I haven't been there when it was going on. I just want to be prepared.

I also read somewhere else, mabye at TGM, that someone said when they checked in (for lunch) that the person at the podeum couldn't hear them it was so loud.

I understand that it has to happen, but just want to make sure our party is aware of the possibility of louder than normal noise.

I was on the phone with a friend as I was walking by the construction a few weeks back. I actually took a minute of video myself to show them, because I couldn't believe how loud it was. Seriously, it probably rattled my teeth.

I have walked through the CR a number of times in the past couple of weeks with no loud noise.

Had breakfast there on Aug24th it was fine never noticed any noise to busy having fun :thumbsup2

What construction is going on there? We have ressies for 12/5 for breakfast. Is whatever is going on now scheduled to be completed by then?

They are building the Contempo Cafe which is to be their brand new counter service location and a few Cast Members said it should open sometime between October or December of this year.

We just ate at Chef Mickey's last Tuesday night (9/2/08.) Our ADR's were for 6:50, and we had a table in the front room by the window (room closest to MK- if that makes sense.) We didn't hear any construction or have any problems with Chef Mickey's. Not sure what it's like in the morning or lunch, but we had a wonderful meal.

Does anyone know what hours they are working ? It sounds like they are done in the late afternoon so you are fine if you have a dinner ADR. We have a b'fast ADR Nov. 16 th. Do they work on Sundays? My mom is not to fond of loud noises. I really don;t want to change my ADR - my DS10 is really looking forward to eating there.

What about birds? I thought I read somewhere that nirds were eating off plates. Is that true?

We were there on a Sat. morning and they were jackhammering then, so I wouldn't assume weekends are safe. You may or may not encounter any construction noise.

Yes, we saw three birds coming in to land and clean up the floor but this was after most people had left and it was clearing out enough they felt safe to come on in.

Each time we passed through the Contemporary in the evening a few weeks ago there was no construction going on. However, we had breakfast reservations for 11 am on August 28, and walked right up to the check-in podium and canceled our reservations because the noise was SO incredibly loud. Waiting a few minutes in the check-in line to cancel our reservation was painful. Happily we called Disney Dining and were able to get into Kona for breakfast, where we enjoyed a nice, quiet meal. Though we were sad to miss the characters at Chef Mickey's, I knew we would not have enjoyed a meal there with all of the construction noise.
