Cheese Soup at Le Cellier ...

I had never heard of cheese soup (other then in the can which is only good for scalloped potatoes done in the slow cooker!!) I tried it at Le Cellier last week and found that whoever made it was way too heavy handed with the pepper! If they hadn't put so much in it would have been great!

Totally off topic but .... .....what a great idea!!! I've never thought to put a can of cheese soup in scallop potatoes! Thanks BitsnBearsMom for the great idea! I'm going to give that a try.

Me neither. I've never seen it on a menu in Ontario, Saskatchewan, NB, PEI or NS. I'd have wrinkled my nose and gone "eww."

But yes, Canadian cheddar rules! Gonna go make a grilled cheddar sandwich now...

Okay, back with GCS in hand and wondering about poutine - surely everyone's heard of that? Is it on the Le Cellier menu? Can't be any higher in carbs and fat than the cheddar soup...

My dining hall at University(an Ontario one) used to make cheese soup all the time. It was horrid. Luckily that did not put me off trying the soup at Le Cellier because I really enjoyed it.

Oh it is very yummy with either cheese soup or cream of chicken/mushroom soup - add onion, cup up pieces of ham and sprinkle cheese over the top and let it sit in the slow cooker all day on low! A yummy cold weather meal served with a salad!

Poutine??? No, I dont' believe that was on the menu but a great idea....steak & poutine...ummmm...I would need to be doing more than just walking through the parks to get rid of that meal though!!! LOL!

As a diehard collector of cookbooks, particularly Canadian ones, I don't know why I didn't think to browse through my collection beforehand to look for this recipe.

Anyhow, it took some looking, but I did find a recipe for an "ontario cheddar" soup in Mme. Jehanne Benoit's cookbook "The Canadiana Cookbook". So, in my opinion there's definitely some merit in claiming the soup as "Canadian"

MickeyMacks and pta-mom ... I have to agree that poutine on the LC menu would be a great idea - that's definitely a Canadian creation! If they ever did that though, it might be a good idea to create a hiking trail around the Canada pavillion so that diners could work off their meals!

Thanks 101DalmFan for finding a recipe in your Canadian cookbooks - add that to the facts that the soup is make with Canadian cheddar and Moosehead beer (thanks ntsammy 5 for the reminder) and I guess it is official Canadian cuisine!

We went to Le Cellier for the cheese soup. It was okay. I wouldn't make a special trip there for it. Anyway, we asked the waitress which part of Canada the soup was from & she said that it was made with Moosehead beer & Canadian cheddar.

Ok, I have had Cheese Soup in Canada...Elm Hurst Inn in Ingersoll, Ontario (close to London, ON). It was awesome, made with beer and Ontario Cheddar. And it is one of my favorite meals at Disney...can't go to Le Cellier without having it!

I've also had Cheese Soup in Traverse City, Michigan. If you are ever there, definitely go to Northpeak Brewery Restaurant. They make an awesome Cheddar Ale Soup, made with white cheddar and homemade honey mustard croutons...to die for!! Paired with a flight of beers, it is a perfect meal.

I have seen it at several restaurants here and I have made it many times. We are in cattle/milk country maybe that's why?
