Ok fellow Canadians, I was just reading a post on the dining section about an OP who claimed he would drive up to Canada as long as they were guaranteed to find some cheddar cheese soup on arrival. It made me laugh, and then I got to wondering ... am I the only Canadian DISer who doesn't really think this is a true "Canadian" dish? I've lived in Ontario all my life and have never had cheddar cheese soup ... actually I think the first place I heard about it was here on the restaurant section of the DIS!!

We're hoping to get ressies at LC on our upcoming WDW trip ... and I'm sure one of us will try the famous cheddar cheese soup just to see what the hype is all about ... we'll probably even really like it ... but still ...

We thought the same thing!:goodvibes We had never heard of it before the DIS. We have tried it and we all agree that we aren't too fond of it. A bit strong tasting for my liking. We do, however, love the steaks!

Amen to the cheddar....

but having spent half of my 40 year in Nova Scotia and the other half in Ontario I have yet to see, smell or taste cheddar soup.

:confused3

I had cheddar cheese soup for the first time in Quebec City and it was amazing!!!! Never had it at disney (but will this trip for sure), and don't think it was the "beer" soup. Either way, it was delicious!!!

I had it once in Quebec City as well. We just got back and I had it again at LC. I really loved it! Mmmmm;)

DD had Cheddar Cheese soup on a class trip to Quebec City. The only menu I have ever seen it on was at Le Cellier. We like it. You can't eat too much of it though. I think that is why the bowl they serve it in is so small.

Maybe it's a just a very small portion of Quebec that CC soup is authentic too...I lived in Montreal & had never heard of it. Also have lived in NS, NB & Ontario & have never heard of it....It is good though!

When we last ate at Le Cellier, I was wondering about the breadsticks...the CM said that they had different kinds that would be "authentic" to different provinces...:confused3 ....I guess I've eaten too many of my meals at lower class places because I can't honestly say I've noticed specific bread sticks that would be native to the four provinces I've lived in!!

I had never heard of CC soup either til LeCellier....and it is sooooooooo good! I agree that Canada has the best cheddar cheese, never knew about the soup.

:lmao: Too funny! So, for example ... the breadsticks representing the east and west coasts would be dusted in sea-salt? And the whole wheat ones represent the Prairies? Hmmm ... so the ones representing Quebec and Ontario would then either have to be mapled flavoured or made with beer! :rotfl2:

Oh no, now I've got myself on a roll ... I should have left well enough alone with the soup! :goodvibes

Reporting in from the prairies... never heard of cheese soup either til the DIS :thumbsup2 Maybe it's a territory thing? :teeth: Cheddar from those well known Nunavut cows? :confused3

I agree! The only place in Canada I have seen cheddar cheese soup was in a Campbell's can at the grocery store  I live in Ontario but have been to quite a few cities around Canada and have never seen it on a menu. My DH is from Montreal and has also never seen it (although we may have went to the wrong restaurants in Quebec City :) ). However, you can't go wrong with sharp Canadian cheddar! I am going to try the soup on our trip in December though.

I make a potato cheese soup which the whole family loves. I don't put any alcohol in it though so that's why I don't eat the soup at La Cellier.

hum... I'm from Quebec City and I never heard of it...:confused3
Which restaurants?

I lived my first 20 birthdays in Northern Ontario, where I have heard about (yet not sampled) the cheddar cheese soup. I have had it last fall at Le Cellier and I would indulge my taste buds with it as my appetizer again in a few weeks.
Count me in for the "Scopa Special"! :goodvibes

I have traveled throughout Canada and can't recall seeing Cheese soup anywhere in Canada.
The only place I've ever seen Cheese soup is at this Roast Beef house in Stuart Florida. The restaurant was my Grandfathers' favourite ( probably because of the early bird special ;) ). The soup of the day was either beef and barley or Cheddar Cheese soup. The cheese soup was terrrible. It tasted like melted Velveeta/Cheez Whiz soup. So, I've always assumed it was a Florida thing. I've also never been tempted to try the soup at Le Cellier because all I can think about is melted Velveeta.
