Cheerleading Debacle at Disney - Bed Bugs, Crowds

It is not yucky because it didn't happen, it is highly, highly exaggerated.

There were some overcrowding issues and there was an hour and a half delay at one point, but that was due to using the brand new venue that Disney built for cheer. And in the history of Worlds and Summit, there is always overcrowding. Varsity apparently is learning from their mistakes last weekend and has made some changes to the D2 Summit this weekend so they don't run into the same problems.

I have been to both Worlds and Summit for the past several years. There is always hiccups. You have to plan taking into account something might hiccup. Yes, it might take you an hour to get to WWOS from your hotel, but this is normal.

The only report of bed bugs at Summit was on this one face book page run by a cheer parent and twitter rumors. There is no mention of bed bugs anywhere on any of the other cheer boards. And it would be a hot thread if there was bed bugs in 11 rooms.

You sound angry.....you should probably take a break and refrain from the inevitable points from calling another DISer a liar.

Perhaps you should actually be able to dispute her points rather than hurl accusations about angriness. Further, she wasn't talking about a disser. She was talking about the facebook page quoted. So no points.

Difficult to believe that eleven rooms at one property were all infested with bedbugs, and that al l 11 were assigned to cheer families.

Cell service inside the venues may be the responresponsibikity of the venues. Cell service outside is the towers, not owned by Disney.

Rain? Seriously? All on Disney, with no personal responsibility of protection, aka rain gear?

o_O... all you can do is laugh at something like this. The loyalty to Disney by some is still so shocking to me. You're right I'm sure Disney did everything right and there wasn't one thing they could have done better...wow.

Disney does much wrong. The specific incidents i cited are difficult to believe. Were, actually, now that a couple of posters explained how bedbugs could infest so many rooms simultaneously. But unless Disney is now a cell service provider and/or has the actual ability to control the weather, used zero validity in these two complaints.

Parents do have a choice is whether they "accept" a Summit bid or not. They can choose the gym their child goes to. 99.99999999% of the gyms let parents know whether or not they will accept a bid.

the rule changes with World's athletes being allowed to cross over to Summit

These both sound interesting, but confusing to a no-cheer-experience person. Would you be willing to explain, either here or in a new thread?

  1. Disney doesn't control the weather.
  2. Florida is in the sub-tropics. Translation: it rains a lot there.
  3. The cheer parents should have gotten a clue and brought rain gear for themselves and their kids. Zero sympathy from me re: whining about getting caught in the rain. OMG, your mascara is running? Well, Einstein, how come you didn't pack a Dollar Store poncho along with all of the hair ribbons, hair ties, hair spray, and other gear? Or an umbrella?
  4. Bed bugs - Disney can't control when or if bed bugs show up. But from what I've read, once they find out that bed bugs are in a room, they take it seriously.
  5. Melted shoes - I do empathize with the kid & parents who had to deal with melted competition shoes. That sucks. But it's not Disney's fault. Blame the hitchhiking bed bugs. I'd rather take hitchhiking ghosts instead!

How many different "world championships" of cheer does Disney host? I swear, I've seen pictures from three different FB friends over the past month that all seemed to be at some "world championship" or another there.

That's why the whole thing is a joke. All those "championships" are just a way to make money for the sponsor of said 'world championship." My DD was in dance for years, and did the competition thing. There were so many damn "world championships." Meaningless, except to those competing. It's not like the World Series (where at least you can claim to be the best team in baseball in the US), or Super Bowl or Olympics. It's the "championship" of a certain sponsor organization. In the dance world (when DD did it), the LOWEST scoring teams got "silvers" and "golds" yet you'd see moms posting like their kid was super elite or something. Sorry, I wasn't fooled. Nope, they've thought of "medals" even higher than silver and gold. LMAO.

There are so many world and national championships of things these days, it has really become meaningless. Sports tourism has become big business.

It is incredible the amount spent on kid sports these days. I am guilty as well.

When my kids first started sports almost 20 years ago, I could not beleve all that 'suddenly' was involved in kid sports.

All Star Cheer has one World Championship. It is the last weekend in April. 2 weeks ago there were approximately 800 teams from 40+ countries and most of the continents. It is the a definitive World Championship event.

These will be the teams from which the athletes will be chosen to represent their countries in the next summer Olympics when it is included as a provisional sport.

Sorry, but the All Star Cheer Worlds is like the Superbowl and Olympics. You can claim to be the best in the world with over 40+ countries represented. It is organized by the ICU and the USASF, global cheer federations. In fact, as I mentioned above, these are the teams from which the athletes will be chosen for the next summer Olympics.
