I'm looking at going the first week of February in 2019 (getting there on a Friday and leaving the next Saturday). It looks like there are cheer or dance competitions almost every weekend in February. I've seen the pictures at All Star Sports of basically just wall to wall cheerleaders practicing routines in a court yard looking area. Is Pop likely to experience this as well for the UCA and UDA competitions or is that more the All Star resorts? Is asking for a lake room enough to get some distance or would I be better off at POFQ during that time? Nothing against the kids. I'm sure they're great kids and I know they will have worked really hard to be there. I'm just not looking to relive the college dorm experience on my vacation. I feel a little guilty even asking this.

Wall to wall cheerleaders? College dorm room experience? Practicing in the court yard? Count me in!

It really isn't that bad............really.

Yeah, I did the college dorm thing. I was in band in college at a Div 1 school. I was kinda over it long ago. It’s fun in small doses. I don’t hate that stuff on principal. Just not for a vacation. Im a middle aged woman so the cheerleader part isn’t a thrill. Lol. I’m happy for the kids that are there. It’s just not what I’m looking for in a hotel. At all. If it’s just handfuls of kids here and there it’s not so bad. I’d like to save the money. But if it’s going to be overwhelming, I’d rather pay more and not be stressed out. I just wasn’t sure if the Feb events are tamer than the stories about Pop Warner and stuff or if it’s settled down in recent years...

The 15s from Argentina will also be at POP in February.

If you are concerned about staying with Cheerleaders, you will REALLY be concerned about staying with Cheerleaders AND The 15s!lol:)

Considering it is a big enough concern to start a Thread about it,my advice is to seriously consider not staying at POP.:)

We went through that at Pop once...never again. Now we will gladly pay more to stay at a moderate or deluxe to avoid the cheerleaders, Pop Warner, tours groups, etc...

We just got back from staying at All-Star Music on a room deal during cheerleader onslaughts. We spoke to both cast members and some of the cheerleading event staff about the competitions to get an idea what we were in for. It turns out there are two events on successive weekends our reservation was squeezed betweeen.

The first was an international competition called The Summit that ran from May 3-6. All of the competitions were at the ESPN Wild World of Sports complex. There is also an event called the Dance Summit at Coronado Springs Resort on this weekend.

These are the resorts that were affected by the event.
  • Coronado Springs
  • All Star Resort - Movies
  • All Star Resort - Music
  • All Star Resort - Sports
There is currently a competition called the D2 Summit going on May 11-13. These are the resorts affected.

  • All Star Resort - Pop Century
According to the folks at the front desk, pretty much every room is reserved in each of these resorts for these competitions.

The teams start arriving on Thursday afternoon and the competitions run Friday through Sunday. So expect full resorts during these periods and heavy park occupancy as families are hitting parks when their cheerleader isn't competing. According to the event folks we talked to, The Summit event features international teams so a higher percentage of folks stick around after the competitions.

For us, all of this worked out quite well. We were at the resort Monday through Thursday. The Magic Kingdom was a little crowded on Monday but the evening extra magic hours were perfect. The rest of the week was not too bad at the rest of the parks. Bus transportation was not noticeably more difficult either. We did find Disney Springs was REALLY busy in the evenings.

I poked around a bit on the event website but didn't find any projected dates for the 2019 competitions. You might try calling them and asking them directly. I'm sure a LOT of cheer parents have this exact same question.

So, I took a bit of a hard right turn and rented DVC points at the Boardwalk.

i know you already decided, but just for anyone who is possibly curious: i went to disney for a gymnastics competition and CBR is also a place where many athletes/groups go to stay

We stayed last year at POR during that first weekend in March and there were dance groups for the dance competition that is held that weekend every year. The competition is called Contest of Champions.

It's crazy how similarly priced the two options are when you rent points. You made a smart choice if you ask me!

Yeah, it wasn’t way more than POFQ and Epcot and HS are the two parks I haven’t spent time at recently (never been to HS at all and haven’t been to Epcot since the mid 90s). I’m excited and nervous and excited. I kinda liked the idea of being able to look at world showcase and eat there in the evenings. Plus I’m a Star Wars nerd so I want to see both evening shows at Hollywood studios. So, it just made sense I thin...I hope.

if they are having the competitions at World Showplace they will be all over Epcot. I was there once and the pub was full to bursting with cheer parents.

Not as worried about that. I’ve got park hoppers. Plus I expect all the parks to be super crowded on the weekend.

No more Competitions at World ShowPlace.:)

There is a new 8,000 seat Arena at ESPN WWoS-everything is now held at ESPN WWoS or at CSR.:)
