Checking on Ontario people, Quebec too

There is definitely no comparison with the devastation in Kentucky. That is heartbreaking 💔.

We are supposed to have these wind gusts until 3-4 am.

We didn’t lose power but apparently a lot did and there are trees down everywhere. I haven’t looked yet but I know o hear things blowing across our yard ..

We are in a ninth floor condo overlooking a marina just east of Toronto.. the building swayed and vibrated most of the evening as the wind howled across Lake Ontario and slammed into the building. We lost power at about 5 pm as the winds were really picking up, it was restored at 8:45 pm.
Our building has an emergency generator for elevators and common areas, I went down to the underground parking so I could charge my dying phone from my car’s battery, the power returned while I was down there - going back up, the elevator shuddered, made a loud noise and abruptly stopped at the third floor - I took the stairs up the remaining six stories thankful not to be trapped in the elevator.
This morning we have bright beautiful sunshine!

My daughter was on a VIA train headed to Montreal from Toronto to see some friends.
I was a little worried because of the weather but I figured it was probably safer than a plane or a car.
She left Union at 5pm and got stuck in Belleville at 7pm.
There had been some debris on the tracks aead of them and another train had hit it and was stopped.
They had to wait for a repair crew to inspect the train ahead so it took a loooong time.
She was stuck in Belleville until 11pm and didn't get to Montreal until 2am.
VIA had Wifi and free snack/drinks. It was warm and she actually got some school work done so all is well that ends well but I am sure she is very tired!

In central/eastern Ontario, we didn't lose power here and no serious damage. Neighbour around the corner had a truck fire at the height of the storm so lots of fire trucks in the neighbourhood making sure it didn't spread in the high winds. While we had lots of advance warning about the storm, it still seemed to hit very quickly late afternoon without much of a buildup. Just calm and still then suddenly bam it was here.

We did not lose power, it seems like a lot of the city did. My SIL lives right next to the airport, has a tree down, and most of the fence in the street. DH has gone over. I see a lot of uprooted trees on cars, things like that. Just a sleepless night, we were very fortunate.
@alohamom I am glad she made it safely, I think Belleville really got it badly. Hope she is doing well ❤️
@damo glad you landed safely, I was thinking of the take offs and landings last night.

It was really howling last night, I had a hard time falling asleep. But we didn't lose power, thankfully. My windows were rattling. I could hear things blowing around and my neighbor a couple doors down had their fence fall, but it was in bad shape so just a matter of time any way.
