We are checking into the Poly on my DS birthday. He will be turning 9. My older son is turning 11 when we board the Wonder and I ordered the birthday package for our stateroom for him. My question is this, do they have something similar at the resorts, specifically the Poly?

Thanks!

Dont know about Poly, but I'd imagine they would do something. At AKL Mickey slipped a card with nice 5 X 7 picture written out to our son for his birthday! Mention to cast member when checking in, have great celebrations!!!!

Let them know when you are checking in, or even call af few days in advance. They don't automatically do anything, It's just a nice surprise if they do. Make sure you go to guest services and ask for a birthday button. Again, it dosen't guarantee anything special, but he will get lots of Happy Birthday wishes and maybe a nice surprise. If you want to guarantee that there is something for him, then you can order him a special cake. Also, there are several places that do WDW gift baskets. You could have them put "From Mickey" (or whoever his favorite is) on the card.

You just need to call the Polynesian's number 407-824-2000 and ask them to transfer you to private dining (aka room service). You can arrange to have a birthday cake delivered to the room on the day you check-in. It won't be there waiting for you, but it will be delivered at some point. They typically do need 24-48 hours notice, depending on what type of cake you want. It's usually delivered on a festive table with birthday decorations. I believe they need a credit card though and your reservation information, so you probably want to have it handy when you call.

My son celebrated his bday during our stay at Poly last year. On our first day, a CM delivered balloons and a Mickey bday card signed by some of the characters. It was a nice surprise!

Thank you for your ideas. I do wish they had something like the cruise line offers but alas, not so. I will look into what I have read here.

Thanks again!

What does it cost to order a cake and how do you do it? I'd like to do a similar thing. Thanks.

Room service cakes start at about $25 and go up from there. How you arrange it, depends on where you're staying. If you're also at the Poly, you can follow the instructions I gave above.

This thread in dining gives instructions if you want to order a cake for table service, http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18936500. There's also another quite lengthy thread that includes all phone numbers and pictures, http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1173219. You might find this information helpful.

Back in May 2006 my wife and I had our 20th wedding anniverary and we stayed at the Poly. I had called ahead of time and asked that a small cake be made available for our dinner res at Narcoosee's. When we came back to our room there was a picture of cinderella and prince charming along with balloons and flowers. This was something neither I nor anyone I know had ordered. I came to find out that the girl at the main desk told her manager and they did this gratis! Talk about surprise!
