checking into 2 hotels?

I proposed to my wife @ WDW just about 10 years ago (in fact we're going back to celebrate that in less than a month). Back then, they had something called the "Magic Kingdom Engagement Team" (or something like that). I had read about this, contacted them, and they actually helped facilitate the whole thing for me (for a price, of course!). With the plan I opted for, they made it appear that we "won" reserved seating for the MK fireworks. When we arrived, they had roped off the entire rose garden area beside the castle for us. They even told me how to time the proposal so that I would ask just as the first firework was about to go off. It was really great. Anyhow, I just mention this in case you want to look into whether this team still exists...if they do, they can arrange pretty much anything you want. Best of luck and be sure to keep us posted!

So you have free dining? If you don't; why would it matter how many rooms you book? I think it is such a wonderful idea. I think if they noted it on your reservation you would be fine. I also like the fireworks cruise idea.

So here's an update...

I called the reservation line and explained to the CM my plan. First, he chuckled and snidely said, "why would you pay for a room one night, and not use it." so... i elaborated and explained my proposal idea and he said, "OH, well that makes sense."

He then went on to tell me I couldn't do it without major risk on my original reservation.... then he put me on hold for a minute because he wanted to check something... Then he came back and said, "oh it will be ok - lets take that reservation." i told him no thanks, i need to look into it more before i can decide.

right now we have dinner reservations at the GF for 6:45. My original idea was to finish up there. go to CR and check in, then head over to BLT (all the while telling my girlfriend, "oh someone from the DISboard is going to help and give us a great place to watch the fireworks.) then surprise her with the room, watch the fireworks...yadda yadda yadda.

but now i'm thinking, maybe after dinner at the GF, go out to the beach and propose -- BUT -- Hire a photographer to catch the moment. is this doable? thoughts?

Oh I think this is an absolutely Magical idea. I have tears in my eyes just thinking about it.

We've had rooms at 2 resorts on more than one occasion. It hasn't been a problem. Once dh got sick after a dinner at GF (not from the dinner, but no doubt from norovirus or something similar). Rather than try to go back to BC with him feeling awful, we simply booked a room at GF for the night and I put him to bed. We returned to BC the next day. No problem. We paid for 2 rooms that night, and it was expensive. But, no one seemed to have a problem with it.

I'm with the pp who asks, "What is the problem?" Disney is getting paid for both rooms. I would think Disney would prefer to be paid for two rooms rather than one -- especially in these hard economic times when rooms seem to be going begging at most times of the year (witness the constant stream of discounts -- including something akin to room dumping at Expedia and Travelocity)!

As the pp reported, the reservation agent said, "Yes, that's fine, we can take the second reservation." If the pp advises POP that he'll be absent one night, he shouldn't have any problems at all.

I doubt he even needs to let them know. There must be people who book a week's stay and then end up staying with grandma over in Winter Garden for a night or two!

There most certainly are people who book a room for a convention and then sleep with a co-worker, leaving their room unoccupied! I don't see Disney as the morality police doing bed checks!

I even had a concierge at one of the deluxe resorts suggest to me once that booking a Ft. Wilderness campsite and not using it is a good way to get on-site benefits!

I too have had 2 reservations in my name for the same ,when we got married at WDW...I had a 10n at BC and the night before the wedding I got a separate room at BC...i did have a problem when I checked in for the 1 night (they couldnt find my reservation), but it got straightened out and I got my room without any furthur problems...

I was told they didn't allow it? hmmmm...I guess it doesn't stop it from happening.

Can you put the POP reservation in your girlfriend's name? That would solve the problem since the reservations would be in 2 different names. Or put the BLT reservation in your middle name (as long as your middle name is printed on your ID).

Honestly, I wouldn't risk it. EVEN THOUGH the CM told you it was ok, the whole exchange with him didn't seem very reassuring. Plus, there might be a lot of speedbumps that could ruin the surprise element while trying to check in to the other hotel (lines, handing over your credit card for incidentals, etc). I really like the idea of the beach proposal. IMHO, any proposal at WDW would be magical though! I've also read stories (on these boards I think) where the food server CMs were able to help out. Do you have any character ressies? You could get Micky to hand her the ring in a little package and while she opens it, you do the whole knee thing! However the proposal goes, good luck! My DH proposed to me at the mall after he picked up my ring at the jeweler, he was so excited he couldn't wait until dinner! Not romantic, but I still remember every detail, so she'll be amazed!! :lovestruc

For the record, I hope everything works out beautifully for the OP! :thumbsup2
I am only speaking from my experience since I was told, no.

hmmm, maybe there is hope. now i'm just nervous. :\ i'll figure something out - i'm sure if i wait til "day of" i might have luck - if not, it wont ruin my plans. thanks everyone for the info!

When I was at Chef Mickey's this summer, there was a beautiful proposal that the man set up with the CM's. He did the knee thing and the whole restaurant applauded! :thumbsup2

so wait! dpmfloyd! What are you planning at this point? popcorn::

i have a few different ideas planned -- here they are!

1) after dinner, hang aroung the GF for the fireworks, watch them from the beach...pop the question.

2) if time permits, rent a boat.

3) The day i plan on proposing, we intend to spend the afternoon at epcot for F and W. afterwards, we will head back to the hotel to freshen up. When she is in the shower - i will leave a small stuffed "lady" doll (from lady and the tramp) on the bed, with a note in its mouth saying - "Get Dressed, the Tramp is Waiting at Tony's, and Don't Forget to Bring Lady!" -- all the while, I'm rushing to make sure I get to MK long before she does. I will wait at the heart infront of Tony's with a Tramp Doll, and then pour my heart out to her, propose. I think this is the most likely. When we went to Disney in January, looked down at the right time and saw the heart with the paw prints in it - she melted -- she loved the simple "puppy love" imprinted in the cement.

do we have a winner? :)

LOVe...LOVE....LOVE....the whole Lady and the Tramp idea. I think that is the most romantic (and less expensive to boot). How memorable. Please post back here after your trip.

#3 definitely - this is very original. Best of luck and be sure to post here afterwards. And also be sure to let her read this thread afterwards -- she'll be impressed you put this much thought and effort into it!
