please explain (or direct me) the checkin process...why can't we just bring our big suitcases ourselves to the stateroom when we board the ship? DH hates not having control over his bags ...

If you're like us, there are simply too many suitcases to carry at one time.

Plus, I imagine they do it for security reasons. Everything is supposed to be passed by the dogs, and screened/x-rayed.

Also, imagine the bottleneck at the stairways and elevators if each family is hauling their suitcases to their rooms.

The machine that x-rays the carryon bags is not large enough to handle large suitcases....it is just like the ones you pass through at the airport. I do not know the exact size maximum, but most carry-on bags will fit on the machine's conveyor belt.

DCL takes very good care of your bags and tell your DH not to worry.

Plus............ if you can't get to your room as soon as you board, you'll be dragging them around the ship and to lunch. It's already pretty crowded at lunch, just with all the carry on luggage.
