Checking In On Grand Californian DVC

I haven't asked about this in about six months, so I figured the time has come again. Any word on when Grand Californian points are going on sale?

Wouldn't that be nice? To actually tell us all something... especially for a future resort that was "formally announced" so many months ago - unlike the big tower at the Contemporary... for what it's worth, Monday's article on MiceAge has a recent construction photo that appears to show construction having now reached the 4th or 5th floor (you've got to scroll WAY down to find it, though)...

You will love the models -- they are so beautiful! When I was there last month they said something was being mailed "soon" to members at GCV . . . still waiting . . . Between the current state of construction and the buzz about BLT I suspect it will be awhile for GC Villas.

We toured the model back in May during the DL event and it is much like the model for AKV with a few improvement.

I was on the phone with my guide for a good half hour today to get more info about both BLT and the Treehouses - not that we're going to buy BLT, but just for the (I'm currently on a business trip throughout New England and access to the computer is limited - but plenty of drive time so I called)... anyway - after those 2 resorts were discussed, then I pressed for info on VGC - and she said it could be as much as 6 months! UGH - I hope not!!! But she did say that DVC was concentrating right now on BLT since those sales commence this Sunday - and then would shift their focus back to CA. She said she hoped it would be less than 6, but not to count on it. SO - here's to hoping for less than 6!!! Call your guides and press and see what they say... it's not like BLT where it was all hush hush and no formal announcement - Grand Cali has been announced - it's really just WHEN...

There is supposed to be some big press conference in NY on Thursday. I guess it's for all those that don't follow these (and other) boards.

I think it would be interesting to announce on Tuesday (today) BLT and THV and then GCV on Thursday.. IMHO i dont think they'd do that because it would take focus away from what they announced today. Keep waiting...........

My guess is that if they were anywhere close (within 4-6 weeks) to being ready for sales at GCV, they would have announced the start of sales today, along with BLT. So it's got to be a few more months at least. I'm just happy that the price per point for BLT is reasonable, and that the points/night aren't as scary as I had feared. I think the GCV and BLT are probably going to be fairly close to each other price and pointwise, so it was good to get an idea of what we might be looking at.

If there is an announcement in NY on Thursday my guess would be the rumored sales office in NY. It seems to me that they have a tendency to go to where whatever they are announcing will be when they do finally get around to sharing. JMHO.

I will call my guide and leave a message bugging, I mean asking, about GCV. I would think that with the presales for DL DVC purchasers there might be a little more warning that there seemed to be with BLT. Maybe I just didn't catch on because I am not into BLT.

Yeah, but they've done their big press event in NY a couple of times now. It's kind of fun, because I'm currently in CT on business and am headed into NY tomorrow A.M. for business, and will be hanging out at the WoD store there for a while tomorrow and again on Thursday... not sure exactly "where" the event will be held, but it'll be fun to talk with the folks there to see what they have to say.

Oh me too... I kept seeing the different rumors/projections about horrendously high points, and like you, feel that both BLT and GCV will be similar. What I just found so strange about today's announcement was really not the BLT part, but the emphasis put on THV over GCV. THV has been rumored for a while now, but good grief - GCV has been official for a while now... and talk about pent-up demand!!! THV has been pipe dream for a long time for some people - but GCV was already happening. Personally I would have placed the dual emphasis of today partially onto each coast - instead of all in FL. But that's just me - go figure.

When are they going to put us out of our misery and give us the sales date, price and point charts for GC! This is just plain cruel! The West coast is always second fiddle.

Took a tour of the model on Sunday, and loved it like everyone else said. However, the girl giving me the tour said something interesting. . that there was going to be two villas that slept 12 (i.e. Grand Villas). When I looked at her with a great deal of shock and said, "really?" She said i was the first to ask more about it.. .

BTW, I really hope the GCV point chart is more like AKV, the other DVC adjacent to a park since I find the point chart for BLT high from playing around on the point calculator. . .If its more like BLT, I may loose my interest.

I read somewhere about the grand villas at GCV. I think they were added on after the initial announcement. And that the number of units has increased slightly.

yeah, I've read about 2 GV's at GCV....1 with a park view and 1 without. Personally I'm hoping for a points chart and pricing like AKV...but I.m not holding my breath now that they trumped GCV with BLT.

It's so strange to me that there has been such a large amount of time between when models were available for viewing and when it goes on sale. By all accounts, the models are beautiful. So they get people in, show them the gorgeous models, then turn around and tell the people that they can't buy what they're seeing. Buying in Florida will only work for some West Coasters, so it sounds like a lot of business is slipping through DVC's fingers.

I agree! My guide told me last week that GCV "definitely would not go on sale this year" and that it might be an entire year from now until they do. I find the latter half of that statement incredibly difficult to believe and disclaimer: the guide has been anything but honest or ethical thus far.

Has any one else had a DL Guide say anything regarding sales timeframe for the GCVs?
