Check those December Dollar rates

Some great rates out there with the MAG discount.

We recently made a decision to fly rather than drive. Flight is booked, got a great deal on it (ATA $783 r/t from chicago for 5).

Now come booking of a rental car. I think Dollar seems to be the most reasonable of the MCO on site rental car sompanies. Our flight arrives at 10:52PM (I'm working the day of the flight!), so I think an on-site rental would be our best choice for transporation. As a matter of fact our res @ the Contemporary is for one day after arrival, we may stay elsewhere for the first night, so I think the rental is definitly in the cards.

My question is regarding the vehicle type. I obviously should not book a smaller vehicle than can accomodate our family and luggage, as I cannot count on upgrade, only hope for it (they are fairty common from my understanding).

There are 5 of us, the kids are 9, 8 & 5. We are not heavy packers, nor light packers. 9 nights in Orlando. Trying to figure out if an intermediate would work (hope and pray for an upgrade). Push come to shove, I think we would fit fine in an intermediate. I've been in the car business for years, and based on experience, don't imagine it would be a big deal either way. If I changed my mind at the counter, after not being able to fit my family in an intermediate, would they charge me a lot more, since I am more or less captive now? The difference for a full size is over $50.00 for the rental period.

Any thougths or input would be appreciated.

I think that an intermediate would be tight. My DH and I were upgraded to one (had reserved a compact) recently. It was only the two of us for a 5 day stay. There is not a big trunk and since there are 5 of you it's not as if you can put much in the passenger area. How old are your kids? Will you be bringing a stroller (they're great to have but take up a lot of space).

I would go for the fullsize, personally. I'm renting a fullsize when I go next month. I won't need the space to and from the airport (just me and my son), but will be meeting my mom and sister and I'm hoping that my mom will rent an ECV so want the trunk space.

I can't believe that our minivan dropped again to $159.99 a week. I have now saved over $50. Thanks to everyone that has posted.

I just tried the MAG code and it says

"The selected location does not participate in this promotion or account."

I was never happy with this rate but it has been the cheapest I've found. I'm using the KISS3 code :(

My dates are 11/26-12/5. Is there a way for anyone to help me?
Pick up at 11:15 am, drop off 6:00 am.
Thanks.

My best guess is that your rate is signifcantly higher because of the season. It's my understanding that the week(s) immediately before and after thanksgiving are some of the absolute busiest in Orlando. As with anything else, pricing is based on supply and demand.

bcvprincess: Looks like we are going right around the same time! When did you last check your rate? I am going 12/2-12/16, and my base rate for a minivan is $133.99.

See you in the parks!

PattiPB, are you using something other than the MAG code? We're going 12/5 - 11 and getting a base rate of $159.99 for a minivan at MCO.

I think PattPB is getting that rate because it is for 2 weeks. I just checked and my rate is still $159.99 for a week with no codes. If you check her days with no codes it is $139.99. I can't believe that we are all getting such a good rate. I have always been happy with $199.

I can't believe extending this trip is saving me money!! LOL!! I'll explain that one to DH!

We have always been more than satisfied at $199 a week for a minivan, so I am just beside myself. I had $500 budgeted for this expense!

Patti, I'm assuming that you figured out how to add the MAG code. If not, click on "specials" and then "promotions" and you can then plug it in.

T&B---I did, thank you very much!!! It saved me a ton and my sister (10-day intermediate rental) a few more bucks.

Now I'm checking every day...just in case...LOL!
