If doing a split stay can a family checkin to their second resort after the parks close for the day or is there a closing time to check into the resort.

24 hours a day someone is at or near the front desk. You could do early check in online with a smart phone or computer and pick up your keys whenever you get there.

We checked into VGC last month at 1:30 am after an extreme flight delay. So you can do it any time. Can't say we got a lot out of that first "day" but the room was certainly ready!

No closing time but you may lose the room request that you made. If you haven't checked in yet anyone wanting a different room face to face with a CM may get the room originally assigned to you. Disney doesn't like confrontation and your room is fair game.

Last month we did a BCV/BWV split stay. By the time we checked in at BWV, it was past 10 (we left MK during the Electric Parade).

I did do online check-in though so when we got there, we picked up all our luggage and grocery (freezer/refrigerated) and keys. We still got our room request (ground floor across Bus stop).

Wait isn't the OP talking about checking in for the next day not just a late check in? I though the new day rolls over at 7 AM? So when you do a split stay you can check in 7 AM or later. It seems like most of the replies we're referring to a late arrival as their planes were delayed until after midnight.

I've checked in several times at VGC before 6am. No room ready, but we get our keys which we then use to hit the parks for the early hour for guests staying on site at DLR.

Never had a problem. Plus the line at the front desk is, well, basically us!

We are driving up to WDW for a quick getaway weekend this Saturday. We should arrive between 8 and 9 am and have a studio at AKV Jambo House. We already did the online check in. Even if the room isn't ready (which I wouldn't expect at 9am), we can still get our keys etc and use the pools and such?

Yes, but your studio might not be ready until after 4PM. Especially with the holiday.

I have done two split stays, both times I went to the check-in resort @07:15 and the rooms were ready. Got the room keys, went back to the other resort, packed up and moved our stuff without issues.
If you do not have your own vehicle, DVC will move your stuff for you, just call Bell Services at the check-out resort, tell them if you have any items to keep refrigerated, they will move the stuff in the early/mid-afternoon, and then call Bell Services at the check-in resort to have your stuff delivered. You must be in the room for both the pickup and delivery.

Awesome info, thanks. I am not expecting the room to be ready, but was unsure if we are considered "guests" before 4pm. We usually check in after 4pm on our first nights.

We usually pack a "pool bag" for check in or check out day. We have our swim suits, change of clothes, etc handy in case room is not ready & leave luggage with bell desk. Save us trip back to car & we have our swim gear handy to enjoy the pool ! We usually get to hotel around 11am so good chance room is not usually ready.
