Another one here who loves Universal. We are also from the UK and, like Johnny, we love Universal, IOA and WDW. However, to us, they are completely different.

We went to Orlando for just 1 week last year. Out of the week, we spent 2 days at WDW and 4 days at Universal/IOA. I could easily visit Orlando without 'doing' Disney but wouldn't dream of missing out my favourite park, IOA :thumbsup2

I frequent another board (for UK Disney/Universal/Orlando visitors) and I have been caught up recently in several US-bashing posts. I wish people would just accept that everyone has different likes and dislikes. If you don't like it, don't go - just stop trying to persuade everyone else how terrible it is.

I think half the time if these Universal bashers posted and people didn't respond, they would get fed up but I know how difficult it is to resist saying your piece. I do wish this board could get back to nice US/IOA discussions again.

The place is great and we love it - 'nuff said :goodvibes

Well said Joh :thumbsup2

:)

In 6 years in central Florida, some years I get a WDW pass and some years I let it lapse, but I've always had a Universal pass. I still would argue Seuss Landing is the single best "land" in any Orlando park.

Have Fun!!!

Hershey is my absolute favorite park! Don't forget the renovated chocolate "tour" too! Both Storm Runner and Resse's look like a blast, can't wait until later this summer when I get to return!
I only live 30 miles from Hershey, I have to get there this year. Can't wait to hear about Alex and Nessa's trip.

I don't mind hearing complaints if they are justified. The whining has caused me to frequent these boards less. Seems like people are looking for the negative in everything anymore.

I have two young children who whine less than some here. I guess I feel privilidged to be anywhere.

Weeki Watchi - now there's a childhood memory!

I want to thank everyone for easing my anxiety about my US IOA trip next week. With two teen dd's, I thought they would enjoy trying a new park - and I have very fond memories of taking them to WDW when they were young and spending Grad Nite there myself too many years ago to mention. After reading the moma post that started the bashing, ya'll have restored my excitement of my trip next week. I can't wait to go, I have tried to study all of the MIB tips, will definitely eat at The Kitchen, take my oldest dd on the Hulk and not close my eyes during Revenge of the Mummy.

THANK YOU

Well I guess I'll add my one cent :goodvibes . I love both parks tremendously. We have gone to Disney twice and US/IOA once and I'm on my way back to US/IOA in about 8 hours :woohoo: . The main reason why US/IOA won out in our book is simply because they offer waaaaaayyyyyy more better deals (monetary value) than Disney. 5days at both theme parks for under $100 a person, you can't beat it with a stick!!! Now when my family goes on vacation, money and how much we spend is really not a big discussion, but Disney's prices are outrageous compared to US. I figure I can spend some of that money we saved at US on some good eating and those great outlet malls and flea markets :dancer: . Disney is an awesome theme park as well as US, but dang is Disney expensive!!! But I'm sure we will be returning again next year to Disney and the year after next to US :wave2: .

I have yet to meet an Amusment park I didnt like in some fashion!

HUGE WDW fans here.... and HUGE US/IOA fans here....

We havent been to Sea World but I am sure it sucks..... :rotfl2:

I have always wanted to post threads such as these...

Convince me why I should go to WDW?

Will I be disappointed in WDW?

I am an expert in all things Universall, but know nothing about Disney...

Does Disney ever offer FOTL (fill in your own benefit) like Universal?

Is half a day enough to visit all four Disney parks?

DH wants to spend a day of our Universal vacation at (gasp!) WDW!

Now that I have been to all of the Universal on-sites, will I be disappointed in a WDW value?

I love this! And yet these are the kind of threads we get posted here on an almost daily basis. How well would these posts be received on the Disney forums?

It would be a dead thread running! Short life span, and the poor OP would be bashed to smithereens. :sad2:

I just finished my 2nd trip to US / IOA, first stay onsite at HRH. We are headed back in Oct and to WDW. I am hooked!!! It will be our first stay at RPR and our first HHN!!! Can't wait!!

Well, I've always found a lot of humor in the bashing and honestly, I kind of enjoy that the parks are smaller, not as popular, less crowded and different...not unlike this board and I mean that in a good way :goodvibes

Also, I'm very frugal with money AND my vacation/stressfree time and no one ever mentions these differences. No need to explain them here, and I'm too chicken to go up against any adamant disney defenders, :p LOL.

Well, I'm going down to the Orlando area for my first vacation there in about 15 years and am going to both Disney and Universal. I think the disney fanatics are annoying, although I am learning some useful nuggets for the days I spend at those parks. I am really excited to see what is new for me at Universal. Practically everything is different than the last time I was there!
Some peeps on this board mentioned Hershey - I live in MD and have been considering a day trip to the park, but was wondering how crowded it gets. We have a Six Flags nearby, but I really didn't like the clientele the one time I went (I found the people, including a number of the employees, to be a little too rough).
TIA!

How sad is this? Mike is packing the car, while I am DISing!

I think the large majority of us here can handle constructive criticism, but lately, there has been heavy on the criticism, little in the way of it being constructive. :sad2:

We're off to Hershey, and will totally be missing FOTL, that's for sure!

All I know is that if I read one more post where someone is whining, & pitchin a fit about a commerical I'm going to hurl!!

I agree about constructive criticism, IF thats what they were doing, more often than not I see stuff that's blown way out of proportion, or totally incorrect (not knowing the wait time for a ride, claiming most rides are "motion simulators", no theming).

Sadly, it seems to have been this way ever since IOA opened and what really makes it difficult is when people come to these boards who want to go, and you get dozens of people posting wrong information just to keep them from going :confused3

If US/IOA was so bad as they say, why do they have to constantly pull stuff out of their #$$ to try and make a point.

Thank you for this thread, AlexandNessa! I will be back to my happy place in just 3 weeks. I will have 4 newbies and 3 novices in tow. After reading the threads on these boards lately I was getting a little worried about what we would find when we got there.

Some of you know that I have been to Universal exclusively on my last dozen or so trips to Orlando. I have only been to WDW 2 days in my life. Once in 1978 and again in 1985 or so. As it turns out, I will be spending some time over at 'the other place" on my upcoming trip. So, I have always wanted to post threads such as these...

Here's another:

Will my 17 year old son like Disney???

  • Universal Bashing

  • Complaints about the elimination of free express

No debates. Just a place to give a smile and a hello if you (like me) feel a little exasperated on this board lately.

:wave2:

:)

There you go, just as you asked.

Notices there aren't many who have complied with the original request. Just gotta get another cheap shot in. I just gotta........

:sad2:

We will be leaving for our first Universal trip in less than 2 weeks. We did Disney about seven years ago with our 4 year old son. We totally enjoyed it - even though we did many things the "guide book" said to not do. (Don't stay at All Star - they are too noisy, transportation is bad, etc.)

This time we opted for Universal and will be visiting Sea World. Our son is now 11 and wants to stay at the Hard Rock. We are looking forward to our trip.

We have been to other parks as well - Hershey Park, Kennywood, and Idlewilde - all in PA. None of these were Disney, yet we managed to have a good time. All parks are different experiences - go with an open mind and you will have a good time!!!

There are many negative reviews on the Disney boards - if you look for them.

Thanks to all the Universal DISers for the wonderful information I have received over the last year in planning our trip. I know it will be hot and crowded and we may run into unruly teenagers, crying babies, and tipsy patrons. But I WILL STILL HAVE A GOOD TIME!!!!!!

I am always amused by the narrow mindedness of some of the disney fanatics. They just take it all so personally. I mean, aren't Spiderman and the Hulk two of the top 10 theme park attractions in the world??? How can they be so brainwashed that they are afraid to venture "off property" like they might get leprosy or something? They actually think that spending $100's of dollars to put 4 people in a 300 sq ft room, and STILL spend an hour and half on the bus is CONVENIENT! HAHAHAHAHAHA :rotfl2:

My favourite way to stir the pot is to tell them that I just can't bring myself to "settle for staying on site" when there are so many offsite condo's that are better, nicer, and cheaper. They don't seem to grasp that if I save enough money in my offsite condo, I don't NEED a stupid dining plan, I can afford to buy my own meals!!

We love US and IOA. The only reason we are coming back to Orlando this year is so our son can ride the Hulk ( he was too short last time, and we promised we'd keep coming back til he finally makes it).
