My insurance company sent me 3 refund checks, which were all owed to me, and I deposited them. They cancelled the checks and sent one lump sum check, but it was too late I already deposited the others. Now I am getting a returned check fee for each one from the bank and the insurance company is refusing to refund this. 1. WHy am I getting a fee when THEY wrote the check? 2. Shouldn't they have to pay the fees since it was no mistake of mine?

I cancelled all my policies when I sold my house, and I will never use this company again. I have made 16 phone calls, spoken to supervisors, and I am not getting anywhere.

That's horrible, and bad business. Can your bank override the fees this time - I'm assuming this was a one-time thing and you're a great customer. I'm sorry you're getting nowhere with the insurance company

the bank is wiling to wipe off one fee, but the fee is $25 per check, so that still leaves me out $50.

Call, write, or email your State Dept. of Banking and Ins., let the bank manager and Ins Company know that you are doing so. I hate seeing things like this happen to people, it is the Ins. Co's fault, but you may have better luck pleading your case with the bank instead.

Make sure you keep documentation of the fees, and if able, get a letter from the banking stating the specifics to forward to the Ins. Co. and the State Board.

let me understand! they sent you 3 checks u deposited them did they clear? ( amount was in your account) if they cleared I dont understand how they can cancell them anymore!

Can your bank help you understand why u got the fees and if the insurace co is a chain I would contact corporate and it they are not I would contact paper/ news channel /better business!

Go up the chain to management at the insurance company. You should be able to find out who to correspond with on the company web site. Write polite businesslike letters explaining what happened and requesting reimbursement for the fees. Send return receipt requested if necessary.

This may sound counterproductive, but check with your local court about small claims procedures. You can sue the insurance company for the fees plus any costs related to the lawsuit (such as filing fees and subpoenas) and you will see them very suddenly willing to settle, as they must be represented by an attorney in Small Claims Court and it will cost them more in attorney fees than it would cost them to settle.

Here is a what I have done in similar situations. Write a letter to the President, CEO, and CFO of the insurance company and the bank. Explain to them the situation and firmly or professionally demand a refund and cc the letter to their regulators. I did this with Verizon wireless before for $12.00 they owed me but refused to refund. Generally I would not do it for $12.00 but their customer service rep was so arrogant about it. I also got Orbitz to give me a $100.00 credit using the same technique after their customer service rep refused a refund. Good luck.
