Does anyone make index cards with photography tips on them (cheating I know!) and take them to Disney? Since I'm new to my DSLR and haven't had a ton of time to practice for thing like fireworks or dark rides, I was going to make up index cards with words of wisdom on them for specific situation.

Will anyone on here be mad if I put their advice on cards???

I dont take index cards, because I understand the concept of how to take the various photos. I do take my manual with me though, because while the concept make sense and stays in my brain, I don't always remember what mode to put the camera in, or which button to press to do what I think I want to do!

I have been practicing with my camera in various modes to see what affects I get. I am hoping by the time I go to WDW that I will have a much better working knowledge of my camera than I had last trip (2 weeks after I got my camera). And having been to disney once, I have a better idea this trip of some of the pictures I want to take when I go back.

Nothing wrong with a cheat card they are easier to stick in a pocket or bag heck there is even a market for them :)

I like they way they laminate the cards to keep them safe from rain or sodas or what ever.

While was getting to know my new camera I had this one out to verify what I was doing LOL

At officemax, they have index cards on a spiral ring. I bought one of these with a brown front. Made a real nice Nikon Emblem on a piece of paper, cut it to 3x5 and stuck it in the fornt. Then I made some nice labels on the tabs and keep everything about everything for my camera in there, best of all, it fits right in the bag. The funny part is when I start setting it up, and go through my notes so I know exactly what I use, i'll have people coming up askign what THEY should use.

Over the years I have made some for the various flash settings (multiple flash options for my SB-28) and the real number of images remaining for my SD cards (the D80 only shows about 70% of what you can really have) and I find that once I make the cheat sheet I do not need it anymore.
Best thing that you can do is just play with it and the different settings. There is nothing better than familiarity with you toys.

ABSOLUTELY!! My DH goes one step further; he looks at all these INCREDIBLE pictures and instead of trying to hi-jack them and call them his own (where's the fun in that :confused3 ) He will save the pictures on his iPod as a template only with the tips/exif data and try to recreate it. He's in the same boat you are; LOVES taking shots, but still working the kinks out! :thumbsup2

When I first got my D200 I bought PhotoBert's cheat sheet. He's made them camera specific. It's useful info and handy size. Slips right in the front of the bag.

If I only knew what I was doing, I'd make my own cheat sheet! I found a website called PocketMod that lets you turn 8 full-sized pages from Acrobat into a little booklet.

I made notes for myself but honestly never used them. I was already fumbling around with what seemed like a lot of things and that was just one more to add to the list. So I've just tried to understand the theory and practice in different settings. You might just want to stick to Auto as much as possible for your upcoming trip, until you get to know your camera better. Have fun!
