Cheapest Way to Get CocaCola?

We are doing a quick trip in January with my brother and sister-in-law. My sister-in-law is a CocaCola addict (4 cans per day). We usually take a suitcase of non-perishables and purchase milk, bread, etc. at the resort store. I understand the resorts sell Coke at about $1 per can.

Any suggestions as to the cheapest way to get about 24 cans of Coke? Has anyone successfully taken soda on the plane as either carry on or checked luggage?

THANKS for your help

Donna

where are you staying?

across the street from BWV is a hess gas station. you can get cokes here pretty cheaply.

there is one fairly close to SSR too - but not walking distance - you have to go through the DD parking lot and that is just too dangerous on foot.

She could buy a resort mug with free refills if you will be at BCV. Not as cheap as a case of coke but more convenient if you won't have a car. Sorry don't know the details about the program at the other DVC resorts though.

I know that SSR also has the refillable mug, I think it was around $11.00 or so, but all the refills you want for the length of your stay.

I would not take cans of Coke as checked luggage, I would be afraid they would explode open because of the air pressure in the luggage compartment. Taking a case of Coke as a check on would be heavy and cumbersome to lug around.
Why not go to a grocery store near WDW and buy milk, bread, Coke and whatever else you need when you get to WDW? If you have to take a cab to the grocery store, the savings on these items compared to a resort store would more than cover the cab fare.

There is a Wal-Mart just outside Disney property.
You could also visit Club Cool at EPCOT (I thinks its reopened now) and get all the Coke products for free. Just watch out for the "Dreaded Beverly"

Hmmmm. Interesting question. Assuming your prices are correct, a case of Coke could cost $24. :scared1:

If you could find a way to save 20%, you could save almost $5! Or maybe $3.50 if you're only partially successful.

I know you want your SIL to have a magical vacation, but just how much time and effort are you willing to spend to save her $5.00? :confused3

When are you there? We'll be there 21-28 on an II exchange. I wouldn't mind making a run for you on all but checkout day.

Excess of anything is bad for you. Perhaps it is time to get her to quit cold turkey and introduce her again to water... ;-) 4 cans a day... My lord all those empty calories... I feel fatter for just having read that ;-)

Thanks for all the suggestions! We will be staying at Wilderness Lodge villas. I agree she needs to cut down, but not when I am with her! :rotfl: I don't want to have to live through the withdrawal.

I told her about the Hess gas station last night. She thought she might want to do that. So if you see a 30 year old woman pushing a stroller full of Coke near the Boardwalk on Jan. 26, it's her!

My Mom said she thinks she might give her certificates for Christmas good for 12 cans of Coke at the Villas store.

BTW...I also thought about a refillable mug, but she says she needs cans. Fountain pop tastes "different" to her. (???)

If this is the worst problem we have, I think we will be lucky! THANKS again!

if you are staying at VWL - get her to try the refillable mug.

VWL has the best mug (in my opinion) out there. Also the snack bar is located in a great place for the MK.

Not so great for the others - but great for MK.

tell her to be carefully in the Hess parking lot - some people drive crazy there.

She can probably get 3 cases for the price of 1 there. of course getting them back to VWL..... considering she can't take an open stroller on the bus....

Being an avid Pepsi lover (I've cut down to one a day), I understand her want for her drink. We will be at WDW the same time with a car and would be more than happy to pick her up some cola. If she is interested, send me a pm. We'll be there from January 23rd to February 3rd. Probably going grocery shopping on the 23rd. We can meet her at the resort and deliver it to her. We've never been to WL, so we can take a look around while we are there :)

MUST RESIST URGE TO MAKE FUN OF DONNA'S SISTER IN LAW... TOO EASY OF A TARGET!!!

Wow, she would hate my family. Every in there would be picking on her, if not for the "coke addiction" (take her to see some real addicts sometime :earboy2: ) but then for the NEEDING cans because fountain tastes different.

You really want to have some fun with her... Buy her a Pepsi 2 liter... or take some water and sugar and food coloring and give her Poor man's Coke.

Do the resort stores sell cans or just bottles? I don't remember seeing cans?

At least she's a Coke addict. I'm a Diet Pepsi addict, and I've accepted that I'm pretty much out of luck when I'm on Disney property.

I can relate....I only drink my Diet Coke out of plastic bottles (hate the can taste). I usually have a 6 pack in my carry on and than make a stop at Albertson's on the way.

BTW, I don't recall the machines being that cheap ($1), when I ran out of my personal stash

I have a sister like this, so I am glad to hear that she isn't the only strange one. She will ONLY drink Diet Coke IN A CAN (if there is only fountain drinks, she will get water instead :confused3 ).

I buy whatever is on sale and so did our mom, so I don't know where she got this 'picky' habit.

P.S. THANKS for the Hess tip! We are staying at BWVs in June without a car, and it is nice to hear there is a place we can go to get less expensive pop.

I would get refillable mugs, but at BWVs don't you have to get a bar tender or counter service CM to refill them for you? Is there a place you can just refill them yourself? I would like it if that were the case. I love the way Vero Beach has their self serve drink refill station. Wish all the DVC resorts had that.

Probably from work. I used to buy whatever was on sale and drink whatever. Than when I started working late and drinking 2-4 sodas a day from the machine, I got very accustomed to the taste and am now picky.

You can refill your own mug at BC Marketplace. I believe you can do the same at Roaring Forks at WL except it will be closed from sometime in Jan. through sometime in March.

The prices I've seen in machines are $2.50. :earseek: They are the plastic bottles so more than a can but still.....

I too don't remember seeing cans in the resort stores these days. Just plastic bottles.

Dean and Deb, you two are so kind!
