Cheaper? Keep temp at consistent level or drop it at night?

We're in southern Ontario....

We keep it at 70 when we're home during the day, but drop it to 66-67 at night or if we're away.

Wow I cant believe I found this thread - I have been thinking of getting a programmable thermostat for exactly these reasons.....

Can anyone tell me if changing to that thermostat is easy or not....is it a matter of a few wires? Do I need an electrician? Do they cost a lot of money? We have two zones so we will need two of these.

Thanks!

If i had my druthers, the thermostat'd be set at 80!! :cool1:

Come visit at my house. It's always hot in our house. I live with my dad who is almost 85. I wake up in the middle of the night sweating because he's turned the thermostat up to 84.

I am so envious of those 60-68 temps that some of you were posting.

It is so hot in this house that I have been know to go outside in shorts, a tshirt and barefoot when the temperature outside is in the 20s just to cool off . My neighbors must think I'm nuts.

When it's really cold here, friends come in my house and say "Oh it feels so good. It's so nice and warm in here." That's until they've been here 15 minutes and the outside chill wears off - then they start sweating.

It's better in the winter because I can shut my door and my heat vent and keep my bedroom cold. I should probably get a window unit for my BR for the summer. Which seems ridiculous as we have a brand new central air unit.
