I work at a fire and water restoration company in Michigan and it looks like Elsa went on a temper tantrum here with all the snow we have. My poor techs were out yesterday from 7am to 11pm only stopping in the shop long enough to grab equipment and go out on another job. I would like to think of some cheap meals/snacks to have here on hand for them to grab on the go or when they do have a second to stop and catch their breath something warm. Any ideas?

This morning I grabbed doughnuts on my way in. I’m thinking of making biscuits and gravy in the future but I didn’t have the supplies to make it last night. My techs are always happy go lucky even with the stuff they deal with day to day along with the crazy random hours they work.

My first thought was some type of soup or chili in a crockpot, but that isn't very portable. :worried:

That is very nice of you! I would suggest anything you can keep warm in either a crock pot or a counter top roaster oven.

Crock pot could be soups, chili, taco meat for a taco bar, pasta and meat sauce. The options are endless.
Baked potatoes, warm sandwiches wrapped in foil, a giant lasagna. If you are thinking breakfast, the biscuit sandwiches wrapped in foil or breakfast burritos wrapped in foil.

It can be very portable. Coffee cups instead of bowls!

I never thought about a crockpot! we have a microwave and toaster here but the crock would be great.

Also, if you bring in an electric skillet AND you have the time, you could make them grilled cheese sandwiches. Mmmm and and especially nice on a cold day/night. :thumbsup2

My first thought was sloppy joes or pulled pork in a crock pot or nesco roaster.

Breakfast or veggie burritos! I'm making a bunch this weekend for my family as grab and go. Just microwave and go!

So nice of you!

You can keep a lot of things warm in a crock pot! Make the burritos and keep warm in the crock by wrapping in foil and setting to warm instead of low or high. Pasta and spaghetti sauce would be a great comfort food food, but my favorite would be chicken noodle soup or chicken and dumplings!

Breakfast sandwiches or burritos could be fun! Do scrambled eggs with maybe a meat mixed in and have some veggies and cheese on the side with tortillas. You could always premake them or have them make their own and then they can just grab and go.

Hot Turkey or Hot Beef Sandwiches...kept the meat warm in a crock pot.

If you go the chilli route use half the meat and then supplement with refried beans the other half. They will never know and much cheaper. I also do over night French toast for my crew at work. Super easy you just have it sit overnight then bake the next AM. Also at my work we do soup Fridays during the winter months. People have made mac and cheese, lasagna, all different kinds of soups. The soups work out great in the crocks. You could also mini appy meatball sandwiches but buy the meatballs on sale. Then use pillsbury biscuits again on sale as the rolls.
I just want to say what a nice sentiment. Your coworkers are blessed to have you.

Stuffed breads, Stromboli? I used to make Stromboli for the kids when we were racing around - called it car pizza.

Chili, soup, pork & beans with sliced hot dogs, chuck roast (chunked) with potatoes, carrots, onions and celery, couple of bouillon cubes (key is to put LOTS of potatoes), goulash, etc...

Serve in a to go coffee cup w/lid, plastic spoon and napkin and they're on their way :thumbsup2

Potato soup w/chickpeas to bulk it up puree it to make it easy to sip from a cup
French Onion soup
Oatmeal: can have jam, syrup, cinnamon, brown sugar for them to top it with

Chocolate chip pancakes? You could put them in an aluminum pan to keep them warm, and they wouldn't need syrup because of the chocolate chips.

I love the Oatmeal suggestion, it would be like staying at the hotel. Some brown sugar, raisins, milk. I nice hot breakfast.

Meatballs in sauce kept hot in the crock pot.

Sloppy joes / Manwich

Hot dogs in sauce.

Mexican mess.

Sandwiches warmed in a panini press. My fav is Pioneer's Woman's turkey leftover sandwiches with turkey, stuffing, gravy, swiss cheese, cranberry, dijon heated together in a panini press.
