Going to WDW in less than 2 weeks. Got to thinking about my 5yr old. She frequently complains that her legs hurt, especially after modest walks at home. I know she is going to poop-out in the parks. I would like to find a cheap small portable wagon that we could take with or buy once we land in Florida. Anyone have any ideas. Radio Flyers are too expensive at $120+ and our huge plastic wagon from home is, well, Huge.
Thanks

While reading through this forum I came across a wagons-not-allowed-in-the-parks post. Ding dang it. I thnk we already gave away our umbrella strollers. Will have to check with the wife and see where they went. Must have gone to one of our friends. Sure our long-legged youngest will barely fit but a 4 day walk through WDW is not the place to "toughen her up."
I am not willing to rent a stroller: just too cheap for that.
Thanks

If you don't want to buy a nice umbrella stroller, then just buy one of the cheap ones from Walmart ($20 or so - my best friend did this and then gave it away on the last day in the park so they didn't have to take it back home where they knew they wouldn't use or need it).

When we first went to WDW in 2008, DD was 4 1/2 and she's very tall for her age, but for a 7 day trip, the stroller was WELL worth it. She used it when she was tired, even napped a few times strolling along and it was REALLY nice after a late night in the park for getting back to our room at Pop. If we had had to carry her from the bus, that would have been rough! We did buy a Mac Volo for our trip because we are tall people and I didn't want to be hunched over for a week and it was a well spent $60! Got a last years model, still brand new, on Ebay and even got free shipping.

Good luck!

What does the doctor say about her condition? She may have a vitamin deficiency, and a yummy chewable might help her get rid of the leg pain.

You could also just rent a stroller in the parks as needed - then you don't have to take the thing with you on the buses, etc.

but have you taken your dd to the doctor regarding leg pains when walking? I only ask because my dd used to complain all the time about her legs hurting on short walks and would sit down in the middle of the side-walk (or wherever) to take a break. I thought it was "growing pains". Come to find out we brought her to the doctor and they did bloodwork and she was diagnosed with advanced Lyme's disease. :scared1: We never saw a tick on her or a bull's eye, etc. We now must bring a stroller for all of our trips and stop at guest services to get a stroller as a wheel chair tag so that she doesn't have to stand in long lines, but can be comfortable in her stroller.

I don't mean to scare you, but sometimes it is worth looking into what our children are complaining about - just in case. I hope this is not the case with your dd, but wanted to express my experience to maybe help you.

Hope you have a wonderful trip! :goodvibes

My tall dd rode in the cheap umbrella stroller even when she was 6. Its just so much walking and we are all happier if she is happy! We just did a gate check on the airline and gave it to someone else after the last trip. We figured at 7 she could walk for the next one.

I also say get her checked out. My DS also had lots of achy complaints and pooped out all the time- He too had a severe case of Lyme without ever seeing a tick or rash on him

It is not normal for a child to tire so easily

I'm all for a cheap umbrella stroller at that age--we did it. Actually, most of the time, we parked it during the day and only used it as we exited the park and headed out and back to the resort.

If in fact your daughter is cleared by the doctor, and if you sig. is right and you have 21 months til your trip you might want to start some "training".

I'd still take a cheap stroller if you can find one but at that age, we found great motivation & anticipation for the Disney in family walks.

Generally, we just did laps around our neighborhood but sometimes went to parks or to the mall in really cold weather.

SORRY--just re-read your sig--21 months SINCE your last trip guess my post isn't very helpful. Hope you can find a cheap stroller. Maybe check some Mom2Mom sales if you have any in your area? Our area has websites that will list them. Too early for garage sales...Maybe someone will lend you one???

BOTH my children went through leg cramps at night at that age periodically maybe once a month once in awhile. Doctor called them "growing pains" Scary first time it happend and sore the next day but harmless.

Hope you have a great trip!

you might have trouble pushing your older child in a cheap stroller. They tend to have poor control with heavier weight. I second looking for a stroller at your local second-hand shops, craigslist, etc. Even if it is faded, etc. Usually the pads come off nicely to wash. Or check out a stroller swap here?
