OK, so I've decided on the digital camera I'm gonna buy...
Now I'm looking for memory cards. I'm fairly new to all this so I would love some help! :teeth:

I was looking for a SD 1GB memory card - high speed. I've been totally confused while looking online.

I found a RiDATA 1GB SD Card for $54.33 plus $4.81 in shipping at Newegg. This seemed like a good price? I believe it is considered high speed - it says 66x.

Is that a good speed and is that brand OK? It seemed much less expensive than SanDisk. Does brand really matter?

On a similar topic - is it better to have two 512MB as opposed to one 1GB? Do the cards get corrupted often?

Any websites that are best to shop for memory cards on?

Thanks so much!

Brand really makes no difference. I've never had one corrupt or be any kind of problem, and I've had a variety of brands. :)

I use somewhat smaller cards, because I'd rather have less pictures on more. If one gets stolen or lost, I lose a couple hundred pictures vs. 1000. I also download to the computer, than save the card. Eventually I'll burn to a cd too. I'm paranoid about losing my precious pictures and memories.
The rest I cannot answer, sorry.

I just bought another digital camera on Friday night and my DH and I had this same conversation.
We decided on 2 256 cards. I have a 5 MP camera and it said I should be able to take over 100 pictures on a 256.
Since we are very deligent about downloading our pictures every night (fun way to re-visit the day) I know that will be fine for us.
I would not want to take a chance w/ only 1 card and would get the 2.

For sD memory cards, brand does not matter. I did learn that, for cameras that use xD memory, brand does matter. If you want to use the panorama feature of an Olympus digital camera that uses xD memory, you have to use Olympus xD memory. Apparently the Fuji xD memory does not support the panorama feature.

Unless there is some similar circumstance with your camera, I doubt that you will notice any difference between brands.

Thanks everyone. So is that a good price for a 1GB then?

And is 66x considered a higher speed than the standards cause I don't know. :confused3
