We have found Walmart to be even cheaper than Sam's Club for tires.

Do you have an America's Best / Discount Tire (same co., different names in diff. places) chain near you? They were the cheapest around when I had to put tires back in the spring. Service was very nice and there were a few options for my car, an old Accord, well under $100/each.

OT: Why plan on getting rid of the car in a year year and a half? You could get an AAA Plus membership that will give you a tow up to 100 miles if the car literally conks out by the side of the road. Things like batteries and brake shoes and air filters need replacement on the same time or mileage intervals (typically 4 years for a non-deluxe battery) on a new car as on an old car. And by keeping an old car longer, you pay less in annual tax for those states that have such a tax based on the current value of the car.
