cheap, non scary hotel at Detroit Metro

I have to laugh at the not scary comment. I live 20 minutes away from the airport, and I don't consider anything in that area scary. I think any major chain you pick will be MORE then fine ;)

Another Michigan gal here!! I fly out of that airport all the time and thank goodness I LIVE so close and don't have to stay there!!! LMAO

It's fine!! Not to worry. And to the poster whose post I quoted, I have a Maddison that I call Madds too! That jumped out at me, so I had to post on this thread. :rotfl:

And to the original poster, I would call the hotels and ask about the shuttle. I have waited for almost an hour just for the shuttle to pick up my car from the lot, so 30 minutes might be the average wait to get to a hotel.

And I wasn't offended. I tell people I am from Detroit when on vacation and they look nervous. hahaha (And I'm more downriver, I say Detroit so they get the gist.)

Well I haven't stayed the night near the airport since DH and I went on our honeymoon almost 5 years ago but we stayed at a baymont and they had free parking for up to 8 days and a shuttle to airport. It was actually cheaper to stay there for the night then to pay for parking for the week we were gone.

Throwing my vote in for the Fairfield as well. DH and I stayed there 2 years ago when we went to the Dominican Republic. Both before and after our stay. I can't comment on the shuttle for the hotel because we didn't use that service. But if you plan on parking, I wouldn't recommend it right at the airport. Its very expensive. But the Fairfield is right in front of one of the big parking lots and they offer great deals for a park and stay type thing. I think we paid $99 for both. We stayed the night before because we had an early flight but the parking lot shuttle was fast and efficient and they let you know that where they drop you at is where they pick you up at, so no guessing or trying to find them. Coming back, we didn't have to wait for the shuttle, it was there when we exited the building and another pulled up right behind it.

We ended up staying at the Fairfield coming back as well, which wasn't planned. We had travelled literally all day 11am - midnight and baggage was extremely slow that night (took an hour and half!!) and we were just too exhausted to drive home. We paid $119 for the night, which was rack rate.

Detroit Metro Airport is in Romulus, Michigan. Its a very nice, safe area, in my opinion!

I guess I must clarify to those from Detroit that I offended. When I said not scary, I meant not full of bugs, gross carpet, etc. It will be me, my sister and my 7 year old son, and I don't really go anywhere that late at night usually. I don't want to have to ride a shuttle for 20 minutes, when I am flying from California, and it will seem like it is 3 am. I don't have to want to wait a half an hour for the shuttle to come, either. I completely understand that the airport is NOT in downtown Detroit. I perfectly well understand that the City of Detroit has a lot to offer. I have been to plays at its theaters, seen ballgames at it's parks, and have watched concerts at its venues. We go to Greenfield Village regularly. One thing I don't do is fly into Detroit Metro at 11:30 p.m.

One thing I hate about this board is that people are so quick to jump on the criticism bandwagon.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will try to find the best deal from those!

I'm from the Detroit area and I am not offended at all. I've lived in the suburbs all my life. Detroit IS scary, sorry, but it is! There are nice areas, like where the sports arenas and casinos are, but let's be honest, it's a very dangerous and perfectly scary place to be, especially late at night. I have to go to Cobo Hall this weekend and I am just dreading it. I hate going down there! Cobo isn't so bad but the drive through the city... I wish I didn't have to do it. But Metro Airport isn't in Detroit. You'll be fine.

The QwikPark Shuttles are very regular! So that's a nice bonus. They also give you a phone number so if for some reason you think they are taking too long you can call and they will dispatch one right over. They stop at the Fairfield at the La Qunita. I always see pilots and FA getting on and off the shuttle at the La Quinta.

Here's their park and fly packages.

If you exit off the Lodge at 1C, you are basically right at Cobo! You don't have to drive through the city at all.

Oh, I know. I get off pretty much right at rooftop pparking. I don't like driving through the city whatsoever, even on the freeway. I have a friend to drive with this time, and she's doing the driving. I'm not stressed about it now. :goodvibes

Based on this post I vote Westin, it is about 130.00 but you do not need to leave the airport.. You can get access into the airport to eat at any of the many restaurants and the rooms are very nice.
