I am looking for the cheapest hotel room I can get that includes transportation to Disney World and the airport. I booked a trip with friends to go in November to Harry Potter world, bought my plane ticket and now no one else has purchased theirs so I'm getting nervous that it's going to end up getting canceled. We already booked the hotel and the tickets for HP but I would like a back up plan since the hotel is not in my name...So that way if it comes down to it I can just book a different hotel and just go to Disney World by myself instead...especially since my plane ticket is non-refundable.

Well, the only hotels offering free transportation to/from the airport AND to/from the Disney parks are the Disney-owned resorts, so that answers your question. Book a Disney Value resort, ideally with a discount code in order to get the best rate.

Is airport transportation free? When we were looking into booking DVC for a week we were told there was a $100 surcharge for airport transportation (even though we drive down), Internet access and other trifles that had us look elsewhere.

Disney offers free transportation between the Orlando International Airport and its 20+ resorts, including the DVC resorts, for all resort guests. The transportation is called Disney's Magical Express.

Internet access is $10 a day at the DVC resorts if you are not a DVC member. It is free for DVC members.

No idea where the "$100 surcharge" you were quoted came from... or at least, I can't think of a polite way of expressing where I think it came from!

If you trade into DVC through RCI, there's a transportation surcharge of around $100.

Ah, that would explain it. There is no transportation charge when you're paying for the room, but a timeshare exchange would be different.

Ok, I just have to say something. You refer to "Harry Potter World" in your post, and you have it listed the same way in your ticker. I know Universal marketed this thing as a "Theme Park in a Theme Park", but you must know that it is not. It is just a new "land" in IOA and it is the smallest "land" at that. Two refurbished rides and one new ride.

I realize that you may already know this. Its just really important that people manage their expectations with this Harry Potter land. Universal has put out all kinds of press calling it a new theme park, and it just isn't true.

OK...PSA Over.

My next question would be the fact that you say you purchased tickets to HP. You mean Universal right? If you have tickets to Universal, my next question would be why are you asking about going to Disney World? Is your plan to save the Universal ticket for another trip?

As a woman traveling solo, I would recommend you stay on Disney property at a value. Airport and Theme Park transportation is included. Special rates for November have not been released yet. It just keep my eyes on the DIS and Mousesavers for when the next round of specials come out. They are currently offering specials for travel dates up to Oct 2, 2010.

Well, if you're looking for cheap and something respectable, I'd go with Priceline. Or you can try Hotwire because you can actually see the amenities that you'd be getting.

OP - Are you saying that if your friends bail, you will not go to USO/WWoHP and instead will tour WDW solo?

If so, you have to decide between convenience and low price.

Staying on WDW property at a value resort (All Stars or Pop, about $100/nt) will offer you both Magical Express airport transfers as well as theme park transportation. However you will probably pay at least twice of what you can get on Priceline.

However, I don't think any of the WDW area hotels, Priceline sponsored or not, offer free MCO shuttles. Expect to pay $20-30 each way. And only some of the 3* and above hotels offer WDW shuttles.

Your best bet might be to go ahead and Priceline a 3* and above for around
$40 and plan on renting a cheap econ car for your trip. With online codes, you might be able to get it for $150/wk.

I think you have to do the math and see which works out best for you. :confused3

If in November, your trip doesn't conflict with any holidays, you should be able to get a value resort cheap. I know for us in August, I could have gotten a value for $53 with the AP rate and $57 with the general public rate.

You can take Disney's Magical Express if you stay at a Disney owned resort. You just add the information when you book your room.

A Disney Value Resort is the only one that fits the bill.

It is. The $95 RCI inbound exchange fee is effectively a nuisance "because people will pay it" fee. It allows DVC to offset the costs of its own members using RCI for external exchanges. The only thing the $95 gets you that you wouldn't get as a guest or renter of a DVC Member is the ability to call Member Services directly on the 800 number for questions about your stay or dining/recreation reservations. And, the Internet access isn't even comped for RCI inbounds.

For what it's worth, this is the same arrangement that Disney had with Interval when II was their exchange company.
