cheap beer on WDW property?

We have always gone to the Hess station ,,,a short walk from the Pleasure Island Disney Bus stop. We have bought beer and wine, The case of 4 Barefoot mini wine bottles was about the same price as they are at he liquor stores here in Austin. We also found wine was quite reasonably priced at the Disney housewares store in DTD( it connects to Earl of Sandwich).
Also bottles of wine can be purchased quite reasonably at Italy, Germany and France in the world showcase. We have bought a bottle and they have opened it for us and given us glasses and we have sipped it sitting outside at one of the tables in the world showcase.

I hate change....I remember when the price of a bottle of beer or wine cooler was MUCH cheaper in the grocery section of the gift shops than they are now. I think they've tried to get the prices in line with what you pay at the bar service! Seriously. People must have figured out to go into the stores to get a brew instead of the lounges.

REALLY?!? I asked about this on the boards about a year ago and was told it was against the rules :( Oh well, we leave tomorrow and we'll have to ask about this. We could get a nice bottle of wine to go with our CS tomorrow night (wow, can't belive I'll be in disney for dinner tomorrow!!)

If you're a military ID card holder, the AAFES General Store on Shades of Green is the best way to go.

Otherwise, the Hess Express stations on property all have beer/soda/snacks at what I like to call "non-Disney prices".

We were also considering our options for cheap(er) beer to keep in the fridge in our room. We were planning on stopping at a Wal-Mart somewhere before getting to WDW, but I like this idea. We will be staying at POFQ; what is the easiest way to get to SOG from there? Do you happen to know what times the AAFES store closes?

they have some cheap wine, last time I was there (May), they had barefoot for around $7.00 a bottle. There may have been other brands, but I didn't see any.

im sorry i didnt see this post.

can anyone tell me what kind of grocery items they have there?:confused3

They had milk, orange juice, cases of soda- still not mountain dew or pepsi products. Hot pizza , Krispy Cremes, cereals, .. that's all that comes to mind.. this was at the Hess near PI.

We have beer and bottled water delivered from WeGoshop = we find it well worth the delivery fee!

The last time we were down we also purchased sandwhiches, subs, to have after a day at the park.
Chips and other items you find in your local quick marts.

If you need some after sun items, bandaids, rolaids, it is less cost then the onsite shops.

I always head over to the Hess when staying at the Boardwalk and buy Beer. They sell it reasonably by the 6 pack/half case and I also buy the individual 16 oz plastic bottles for about $1.50 a piece that I can carry on the Boardwalk while watching the shows......much cheaper than the $6 beers if you buy them there.

Can you walk to the Hess by the Boardwalk? We won't have a car, but DH wants to have some beer for the room. :)

Only slightly OT, but what about wine? My DM loves the cheap stuff and I don't think we can swing $8 a glass every day.

Yep you can walk there but only if you are staying at the Boardwalk because there are no sidewalks along the road and Disney will not allow you to walk in the grass along side of the road.

Thanks. :)

We will be staying there. :)

No I'm not. SSR is a DVC resort and they sell beer by the 6 pack and they are NOT $30 per 6-pack.

Have you done this recently? They used to give a discount on a six pack, but that stopped so it's now $5 to $6 a bottle! (I think a 6 pack was slightly discounted say $25! )

And techinically it is illegal for them to open the wine and let you drink it in Epcot. Of course with a lot of international CMs you may get lucky and get one who lets you get away with it, but I think that's a violation of thier licensing. They can sell by the drink but only in "approved" locations and the shops aren't approved.

Here is a thread that has pictures take in May of 2011 of the items at the Hess station.

Thank you SO much! This is very helpful for us. We fly to ORD and then take the ME so we don't have a car. It will be refreshing to NOT have to spend a small fortune just to purchase a few necessities (bottled water, adult beverages) from the gift shop.
