Chatterbox Thread-Cmon in and Jabber! Everyone is Welcome!

Mel- that is so tragic and I don't blame your DD for being shook up about it. :( How devastating :(

Kelly- that skate party sounded like fun. Glad that you all had a good time. :)

Alison- I miss Dizzy! I wish she would post more often but I know she is busy with work. :flower3: Congrats on the new trailer. Didn't your previous one require a roof repair of some kind? I'm glad you don't have to deal with that anymore. :)

I've been a bit busy lately- drove out of town this past weekend, one of my friends called me yesterday and we went out for dinner. She brought her dog with her, who is so cute :) We got to enjoy the happy hour prices and I got a personal pizza for $5 and a small salad for $4. The food was tasty :) We also got some gelato afterwards. While we were eating gelato, we were sitting outside talking and this boy with his mom walks by us. He says: "What are they eating? Ice cream?" and the mom says: "That's gelato, just like on Jersey Shore." My friend and I paused and stared at each other for a second and then just burst out laughing. :rotfl: It just sounded odd the way it was said and it was very random. :lmao:

Kelly, my sis shops at Gap for her kidlets, it can be pricey but there is enough clearance and good coupons go make it a good deal. There was a 30% off printable last week. Plus the ultra awesome groupon that Alison mentioned. Keep an eye on your grocery ads , sometimes they have offers of buy x gift card and get money off your order. Cub has that often for jcpenney gc, same company as albertson's stores and they tend to share similar promo offers.

As for me, any regular store can't beat my thrift store finds.. Unless it's totally free! ;)

Mel: that's incredibly sad news. Makes for a rough start to the school yr for everyone .

I bought a bunch of groceries today, decent deals on meat and pop due yo the holiday weekend coming up. Little more $ than my usual doubles but nice to stock up. Farmers market Thursday and a kraft offer this weekend.. Cheap cheese and some freebies! Next week I can skip shopping..

Unless they have ten doubles of course, can't skip that! Ha!

Band open house tonight. They will have a full dress rehearsal of the field show. My sis might go.

Okay... I have read everything.. and ummm... I have forgotten everything as well. But I love you all!:lmao:

ANYWAYS.. Who wants to hear all about my day from you know where yesterday?? GAH. My dh and I stayed up WAY to late the night before. I wont tell you all why, but Im sure you can imagine..;):rotfl2::rotfl2: ANYWAYS.. We get up at 4:30, because I need the car, and I have to take him to work. He opens the door to leave the house at 5. I was standing off to the side and couldnt see anything.. He looks down and says.. WHAT THE HELL????? I looked around him to see what he saw.. There is some lady SITTING ON OUR DOORSTEP!! WTH????? She was WASTED. Now. We only have 2 apartments per stairwell, and we are the only ones on the top floor. We are WAY in the back of the complex. Seriously, we are the farthest away from the entrance. She is looking up at us.. we are looking down at her.. I said.. Can we help you?? She just looked up at us like???

So we shut the door. She knocks a few seconds later.. says she needs to make a call. Ummmm.. Okay. I gave her the cell phone. She made her call.. No one answered.. she gives the phone back. We shut the door again. SHe knocks again. Says she needs help. Ummm.. What? She doesnt know. Okay. I ask where she lives, how did she get here, what is she doing?? I dont know, I dont know, I dont know. Ummm.. Okay. She looks well groomed, clean, normal.. all that.. But has not purse, phone.. anything. She looked like she was in her pajamas or something, but did have shoes on. FInally I shut the door and call the cops. By the time they showed up she was gone, and they were jumping on us like we did something wrong! SHOOT!! I was hot. HELLO!! Crazy drunk lady on OUR doorstep!! Gah. It was nuts.

Then we have Julies ESL testing.. That went fine, we go in to make an appt. wit the couselor, and they tell us its a no go. She just shows up on the first day and gets her schedule. UMMMMM.. NO! We arent even sure what grade she will be in! It was awful, and Julie was practically in tears. No resolution then. We go to orientation in the evening.. Julie goes off on her tour, and I corner one of the Vice Principals.. I tell her everything that is going on, and she says that Julie cant even start school on the first day. WHAT??? NO!! She directs me to another lady from the counseling office, who says that some appts. just opened up and we are good for Thursday. Okay. Much better. ANyways.. I was trying to tell Julie that she needs to take some challenging classes.. Math she should be in pre-calculus.. But she doesnt want to do that. SHe wants to take easy stuff. Anyways.. I sense that we will have some battles coming up on our hands. But I guess that should be expected, huh?? What is having a teen without the battles?? I said, you can take some of the AP classes.. I know she is smart enough, and her schooling is more advanced then what the kids have here. GAH. Teens.

I love printable coupons. I use them all the time for various stores :) I love GAP but I wait for their stuff to go on sale or I hit the Outlet store because it's cheaper. I love the printable coupons for Old Navy :)

Geeze louise Staley! Why does all the whacky stuff happen in your neighborhood? :sad2: :lmao: First that child you spotted roaming around alone, then the kid who was bullying other kids and now this stray woman on your stoop. Craziness!! "I swear officer! We did not order a drunk woman from amazon.com!" :rotfl: J/k!!! ;) I'm sorry they gave you a hard time. I would show them the cell phone # that she dialed and ask them to trace it or something as proof. Yeesh!

 for you for going through difficulty with the ESL for Julie. That really sounds like a pain and I hope that everything works out from here. My little sister chose academics over her friends. She got into a private school and is taking some AP classes. All of her friends went to a local school this year. She still sees them and talks to them but I'm hoping she will make some new friends too. I joked with her and told her to find people who like anime since she loves it so much. :teeth:

So megan has a sign on her door ..
All strange people, crazy people and lost kids welcome here!
Nice going ;)

argh, high school counselors make me crazy too. We had similar confusion and stress enrolling Justin in moreno valley, it's like if you didn't sign up in spring with the whole school they have no clue what to do. I get they are busy before class starts.. But geeze she is not the only one trying to get classes!

Justin did the adv algebra/trig/ pre calc as a squeeze class last year. Challengng but worth it as he is taking AP calc this senior year. He got screwed out of taking more challenging classes in ninth because they wouldn't allow it in CA, no room for him. Argh!
Noah on the other hand, I can't see him taking enriched, AP or squeeze.. Just the basics is enough and we encouraged him to take classes he would enjoy and not press the language etc.. He is a different creature than Justin, terrible student .. Makes me sad because I loved reading and learning.. He does better when it is something he loves, if he thinks it's boring he doesn't fo the work... Grrrrrrr!

Maybe a compromise? Take one AP class this year? As for the pre- calc, she might not have a choice as she will need x amt of math, x English, x science to graduate.

Afternoon gals!! Well like Megan I read everything but I have yet ANOTHER stupid migraine so my stupid brain is not functioning to great. I will try to remember what the heck was said but if I miss anyone sorry!

First of all Megan that is just NUTS. I don't think I would have even opened my door but I am ultra paranoid LOL. I'd have called the cops first thing and I'm sorry they were jerks to you. Glad she left and hopefully she doesn't come back!! And good luck with Julie. I remember what a pain just dealing with stepdaughter's classes and she was in regular school with no extra crap thrown in. I hope it all gets sorted out and she gets some classes that both of you are happy with!!

Thanks everyone for all the advice on the coupons and such. I do go online quite a bit but usually don't buy stuff unless I can get free shipping. Unless it is a REALLY good deal I can't see spending the money for the shipping plus I am too impatient lol. If I can just run up to the mall and pick it up why wait 2 weeks. ;) I HAVE bought online though from the Disney Store and Children's place in the past as well as Amazon and a few others. In fact I bought dh's Wii from Dell online. I just have to feel like I am getting a REALLY good deal :)

I am DEF going to check out the coupon thing though. I get coupons all the time and DEF use them!! And I NEVER buy anything that isn't on sale! God forbid!! ;)

Anyway I am going to go crash and try and get rid of this stupid headache before tonight. Take care all and talk to yall later!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that forgets what everybody says...that's why I always quote, so I don't have to remember what I'm commenting on.:lmao:

Megan...just stay on the school and stay on her butt. Coming from the mother of a DD who is very smart, but just wants to take easy classes....stay on her butt!! It pays off in the long run. Might have a few go-arounds, but let her know that you expect from her exactly what she is capable of doing.:thumbsup2

Those cops are idiots! Ask them what they would tell their wife to do if she opened the door and found some crazy lady sitting there?:lmao:

Or just post totally random comments..

Dinner today was black beans and rice with left over pork tenderloin made in the rice cooker.

I have a love affair with my rice cooker now. :lovestruc Dump in rice, water, seasonings, chop up some onions and peppers if you want to go fancy. Add some beans and/or meat for a protein.
Hit the button, walk away until it beeps. Ta-Da! Dinner is done, on the cheap! Rice not your thing? Pasta, soup, steamed something or other ..only bound by your imagination and the ingredients in your pantry.

One pot to wash and no hot kitchen. :yay:

I have a cheap 10 cup model with buttons for white, brown rice and steam.
The one critique for my model, it sometimes runs a little too long and dries out rice if left on warm. I get these nice crunchy hot spots when I make combo dishes (not just plain rice) .. no biggie because those browned bits taste yummy!

No need for the fancy Japanese models that cost $100's unless you need it for the porridge cycle (gentler cooking temp). I recommend the type that latches closed, I read the glass top that just sets on top is not quite as good to retain heat. There are smaller sized ones too.

There .. one totally random post on my review of my beloved rice cooker (Aroma brand, Target $40)

That's cool and a quick prep meal :) My family rolls with the big Asian rice cookers. :rotfl: It makes perfect sticky steamed rice and they got good deals on it somewhere (one of the Asian markets I believe).

I love Target so much more than Walmart. I find the most random cool stuff in their $1 section. :cutie:

Morning everyone and happy Thursday!!

Well last night was nice! We went to the kids school and met with the teachers and we like both of their teachers a lot!! We also went to the PTC (like PTA) meeting and found out a lot of interesting stuff about what is going on with the school and they handed out entertainment books as their first fundraiser and usually I HATE fundraisers because we are in so many sports that we are asked to raise money for and esp in these times it is hard to expect people to buy stuff but Katy took her's to my parent's car club meeting and she sold 7! Shane took it to work today and has already gotten several orders so she is excited. The prizes they have for selling them are really dumb though but I am proud of her for taking the initiative and it is good for the school! So all in all it was a good night!

Now tonight we have soccer pics and Shane is wanting to have a practice which I am not too thrilled about. They usually never have practices on picture night plus it is going to be over 100 again so IF I go with them to the pics I will prob come back after that cuz esp with my headaches lately I can't deal with this heat.

Oh and Shelby got invited to a birthday party next week so she is all excited about that. Next weekend is going to be crazy. We have the party, our first soccer game and katy's party so going to be a BUSY weekend but should be lots of fun.

Anyway that's bout it for me. Hope everyone has a good day!

Hello,

Bernice- I was in Borders yesterday waiting for a friend of mine and I read about this book in a Food Network magazine:

http://www.borders.com/online/store/TitleDetail?sku=0740791427

I thought of you and your rice cooker  Here is a printable coupon I found but I believe it ends today. Borders always has coupons though :)

http://dealspl.us/imageview.php?f=147829

I like using their 40% off ones. :thumbsup2

Kelly- hope your headache is gone and that you're feeling better

Hope you all are having a good day.

Thanks Rochelle. I wish I could say it was but it seems to be a combination of sinus and my back is out. I have this weird pain that runs from my right leg up under my shoulder blade into my neck and then into my head but only on my right side. I have tried stretching it and laying different but it just WON'T go away. So frustrating. Thanks so much for thinking of me though! Wish I could go get a massage. Wouldn't THAT be nice! ;)

I have a nice rice cooker, but I really prefer rice cooked the old fashioned way in a pan. The rest of my family likes the rice cooker, but I just don't like the rice as well...maybe it's a bit drier or something.

A few times I've tried recipes in it, but I'm not really crazy about most casseroles or 1 dish meals. I think it's due to my OCD tendencies coming thru! I just don't like to mix foods together, it's the reason I have a lovely set of dishes, yet I prefer to eat off of a plastic cafeteria tray so the items don't mix together.:lmao:

We are planning our maiden voyage in the trailer this weekend.:dance3::dance3::dance3: Wish us luck! I decided to make it just a nice quiet family trip with DH, DS and myself. DD is at that age when she really prefers to stay home. Luckily I have a neighbor that watches her and makes sure no big parties. The last time I left her home a few weeks ago the only thing she did wrong was called information on the phone and added a $1.50 charge to our phone bill. So I guess I can't complain if that's all she did (or at least that's all I found out about)!:rotfl2:

Normally I have a trailer full of extra kids along, but we decided to have a quiet trip this time. Speaking of kids, I went to Walmart grocery shopping on my lunch break. I don't know if it was due to everybody trying to get ready for Labor Day, but the place was packed full of young mothers with tons of screaming little kids. Seriously, I always go on Thursday lunch breaks shopping and it's never been like that. I was very patient the first few aisles, but then I found myself ready to run over a few of them with my cart.:rotfl2: Oh no, I'm turning into one of those grumpy little old ladies aren't I?:scared1::rotfl:

What I should have done...ran up to the 2000 items or less register and bought a giant bag of candy bars and passed them out to screaming kids along the way.:thumbsup2 Although it might have been eerily silent after that.:rotfl2:

I found a funny shopping smiley :rotfl:

Next time you could announce that there is a sale on Neil Med Sinus Rinse and see if the customers will get out of line and run to grab it! :teeth: :rotfl:

Hello,

Bernice- I was in Borders yesterday waiting for a friend of mine and I read about this book in a Food Network magazine:

http://www.borders.com/online/store/TitleDetail?sku=0740791427
I noticed that one, it was written by Roger Ebert .. which is kinda funny thinking of a guy who did movie reviews turning to making a cookbook. I have the Ultimate Rice Cooker cookbook, lots of good info but a little too frou frou in some recipes. A new one came out called The Everything Rice Cooker cookbook, she started writing up recipes as a blog. But know that she has a book out, she took the recipes down but has general info and pictures.. gorgeous site.

I've noticed it tends to be a dry style of rice, if I turn it off a little earlier it has a better consistency.

Some days I can't hang out in the kitchen and putter with meals. If I start something and walk away .. I tend to forget it or get wrapped into something else until it's a scorched burnt mess. :guilty:
Quick meals, slow cooker or rice cooker work best.

As for hot dish, casserole meals, those are the mainstay of a MN diet!
:thumbsup2 mmmmm can't wait until it's cold and have wild rice hot dish! YUM! One of the few cream of whatever that I am willing to make.

I was very patient the first few aisles, but then I found myself ready to run over a few of them with my cart.:rotfl2: Oh no, I'm turning into one of those grumpy little old ladies aren't I?:scared1::rotfl:

:lmao:if you are then so am I! It's the brattier noisy ones that get to me. Whine "moooooooommmmm I want...." and mom is too tired and frazzled to respond, she ignores him until the whine gets louder and more aggravatingly whiney. And then she snaps! Yelling and crying ensues, you can hear the kid screaming at the far end of the store.. and you're thinking.. OMG! Get me outta here!

And Eloy looks at me and says what I am thinking "Thank God we are done with all that" :rotfl2:

We did enjoy a little boy on the bus today, he was giggly and chortling. Trying to be silly and cute. His mom didn't appreciate it, and swatted him a few times.. so not necessary. The kid was bored so he found ways to entertain himself, get you phone detached from your head and pay attention to your kids! :sad2:

Oh yeah.. a lady on the bus wanted to pick a fight with the driver. Bit of a back and froth yell between her, the driver and some other random guy in back yelling too. Except she choose a BAD time to start up. Just as she was reeling up to yell some more, two cops walked by the bus. The driver motioned them to help.

She wanted me to be her "witness' of being treated wrongly..she was yelling "I gots a witness, I'm going to report you"..

uh excuse me? I never said I wanted to be part of your argument??:eek:

I slid out the back door while the cops came inside, figured this might take awhile, it was only three more blocks to meet up with Eloy and I wanted nothing to do with this lady.

I wisely choose the back, some guy (not involved at all) choose to exit too .. out the front door.... where the cops were boarding.

The cop snagged his backpack, stopped him and asked for an ID.
Hmm, racial profiling much? They didn't say anything to me. :confused3

Then I walk down the street and I see a young couple looking a little concerned. Three little boys of various ages, not any of them old enough to be alone. The littlest cry wailing his little heart out. The downtown ambassador (people who work to keep the streets clean, works with police to maintain safety) is with the couple and children while on a radio. Approaching is two ladies.. little crying boy runs to her and latches his little body to her side. She didn't look too concerned, not relieved to find a missing kid.. no she looks pissed that some official looking person is with her kids. Really??? Did she really just walk off and leave her kids alone on a VERY busy day during rush hour?? The farmer's market is going on, business people rushing home, football AND baseball game about to start plus people using the bus to go to the state fair-- there are 100,000 extra people downtown today... and it looks like she left her kidlets behind somewhere along the way

and thought it was just fine.

WHAT!!!!!!??!! People are crazy! That's child abandonment/ endangerment and I hope they called the cops to haul her stupid butt away. Unbelievable.

I wonder if she left them in Target toy dept, went shopping and they wandered out looking for her. They were just a block away.

That's awful about the kids being left behind by a negligent mother. :sad2: It upsets me to see that when I'm out somewhere. A while back I was headed to Old Navy and this boy was outside a toy store just bawling and crying like crazy. This random lady stops and asks him if he's lost and he said he can't find his mom. She asks him if he knows a cell phone # where she could try to reach her (no security guards in sight). All of a sudden this mom sees the boy crying and says: "Where have you been? What the hell do you think you were doing?" and was super pissed at him. SERIOUSLY?????!!! Me and the lady that helped him were just shocked and floored by that. Of course the boy started crying even louder and his mom dragged him away by the wrist. Geeze louise!! Crazy woman!! :headache::mad::headache:

I also saw a tiny toddler walking around and was fascinated by a water fountain there. The parents walked into Coldstone without even looking back (their daughter was behind them) and they didn't even hold her hand. She climbed on top of the ledge around the fountain and her legs were danging over as her head was facing the water. She was trying to look into the fountain. The parents walked straight into Coldstone without watching her or anything. I was afraid she was going to fall in! :scared1: The mom finally looks outside and sees her child and just picks her up and walks back into Coldstone like nothing was wrong. WTH???

Morning all and TGIF!!

Sounds like Alison and Bernice had some interesting experiences YOWZA! I agree about the screaming kids in stores. My tolerance level for that stuff has definitely diminished in my old age LOL. And B that lady on the bus, uh yeah I'd have left too LOL.

Yesterday it got REALLY hot again. Luckily I didn't have to go out in it too much. The girls had soccer pics but since I didn't HAVE to go and my head was still killing me I opted to stay home. If we were just doing pics I would have forced myself but Shane decided to do a practice after and I didn't want to take my own car so I opted to let them go at it on their own. I usually don't like to let them go to pics without me because guys never seem to care what they look like. Hopefully the pics turn out better than last year!!

Anyway today I am off to work but mom has a bunch of apts so I am just going in and getting my stuff done and coming back. Not staying for lunch today. Then not sure what is on for tonight but prob not much. I know that we need to go to sam's sometime this weekend and of course tire shopping and tomorrow is our party. And we MIGHT go see a movie or something. I would have liked to have gone somewhere but I NEVER go out of town on holiday weekends because of the crowds and traffic so we will be sticking close to home.

This is truly our last free weekend. Soccer games start next weekend and I think we may have ONE buy weekend but otherwise it goes till Thanksgiving and then we immediately start indoor which then goes right up till basketball, then swim and yadda yadda. So the never ending sports seasons is BACK!!! Ah well such is life in the fast lane LOL.

I'm off to get some breakfast and then to work. Hope you guys have a good day and hope you have some fun plans for the weekend!!

My you are busy busy with sports! Hope the soccer pics are great.

Christina, you should be happy to note that we got your cold weather from Canada. And I am loving it! It was a chilly 54 this morning, had to turn off fans and close windows, snuggle under extra blankets. :goodvibes I love the fall temps. High of 65 today, very typical of Labor Day.. cold, overcast and usually rain. Ending summer just as we began it on Memorial Day. Now we wait and watch for the trees to change into their beautiful fall wardrobe of yellows, orange and red.. sadly going to brown and gone from the trees with the wind blowing. After that to be covered in white..

We picked up many yummy things at the Farmer's Market: grape tomatoes (incredibly sweet and wonderful flavor compared to the anemic grocery store ones), mushrooms, bananas (BIG bunch for $1), mangoes (50 cents each - incredible bargain), acorn squash (first of the season- $1 each!), and some very yummy sour dough bread that was B1G1 as it was close to closing time from St Agnes Bakery. The bakery has been open for 15 years... but they only sell retail at the farmer's market, on one day a month at their office or thru online orders to pick up Friday at their office. Looking at the online order form, you can't even order sour dough! mmmm yummy good stuff!

For dinner we ate half a loaf of sour dough, block of extra sharp cheese, tomatoes and some yummy gala apples. I was in heaven!

Mmm, sourdough bread is my favorite! :thumbsup2

I checked the weather for DL and Sunday has a high of 82. So it should be cool for my race at 6:00am.
