Good morning, hyenas!
It was a bit cool this morning, but it's warming up nicely now.

I've dropped DS off at basketball camp, and now am searching for DS4's swim stuff! Where the heck is his swim shirt??? He's got 3 or 4 pairs of trunks (I found two) but I can't find his shirt anywhere, and he used to get so cold his teeth would chatter and his lips were blue. He'd beg DH to quit the class early, even though he was having a good time.

Guess we'll see how today goes without it if I can't find it by the time we need to leave. He'll be working a lot more since he's swimming without the aid of a Daddy this time. Maybe that will keep him warm.

OMG, that's the funniest thing I've heard all day!!!

That is my DSis to a 'T', she is a huge packrat. And I come from a long line of packrats, so I am one, too. But my sister takes the cake, I wonder if she has that disorder where people just can't bear to part with things, even if they never even used them. I can see if there's sentimental value, but if not...

Oh! I just remembered......last Saturday when I was at DL with my bf, I was walking past the dole whip float stand and I saw Eric Estrada and his family. He looked grouchy from the heat and was pushing a stroller. I didn't see any guests look at him though so they must not have recognized him.

As for the parents watching kids' events, I play that by ear. DS7 has flat out refused to do some activities if DH wasn't going to be coaching, and we coaxed him into doing things we knew he truly would like, like the basketball camp he's currently in. I think he would have liked it if I stayed to watch the camp, but nobody else's parents do that, and it's a free 2.5 hours break for me, so no cigar, bucko. (He's not too hung up on it, thankfully.)

I don't know why, but it seems really important for him to have one of us watching him in swim class. I believe our Y requires us to stay anyway (I suppose in case the kids need to go potty or get out of the pool early), but either way I stay. I would sit nearby, with the kids' backs to me, but those seats are always the first ones taken. So I sit all the way across the pool, which is kinda nice because it seems less noticeable for the kids and I get a pretty decent view (though from further away, of course.) I bring a book, but at least so far, I've been too interested in watching the kids in the water than reading. Even the kids in other classes! There's a younger class going next to DS7's (they're so cute!), and older, much more advanced kids in the lanes closest to me. They are FUN to watch because they're so good!

I also am insisting on swim lessons as more of a safety issue than something to do as a sport, though sport swimming is a big deal in this area. If either of the boys wanted to do that, I'd be totally fine with that, but I insist on them at least being able to keep themselves afloat and swim well. I hadn't thought about diving as a safety issue before, but that is definitely something to consider.

I am just hoping for now to keep DS7 in lessons as long as possible so we can get to the point I feel comfortable having him in the deep end of the pool without worrying. If he was willing (or perhaps I should say 'not refusing', that's more accurate ) to take swim lessons year round, I'd be happy about that.

If you consider every happymeal toy, her obsesion with office supplies.., boxes to items that have been taken out....every stuffed animal given to her..(well almost)...its terrible...she will say mom I did clean...so I decided to look over everything...her childhood toybox...filled with paper,folders old shoes etc..(that is one big item that is out of here) her closet...HA...I opened it up to put her new uniforms in there and stuff fell on me...and she has a walk in ..she is trying to keep every book she ever owned..she loves to read but her babysitter series has done its time...they need to go to some 10 year old..its endless...I threatened a dumpster in the front yard and I just toss out the window...I havent lost touch with the idea

DH is also a pack rat...i get rid of everything....I don't like all the junk sitting around...yes it takes me a while to do it..it piles up but then I am the one saying enough....lets go...you should see them run to see if I took something of theirs...I have to stuff it in my car and lock it up...or hide it and grab the garbage man at the curb...

I'm not sure if it was a grandchild. I know he's old since my grandma used to love watching him on CHIPS when I was little.

There were a bunch of kids with him.

I can top that, Gina. When we were teenagers sharing a room {shudder!} I found a bag of rocks on the floor of our closet. I said, "What the heck is a bag of rocks doing in our closet?!" and was about to toss it, and my sister shrieked, "Those are mine!"

I was and said, enunciating very clearly of course, "They are rocks!"

She grabbed them out of my hand, shoved them back in the closet and yelled, "Those are MY rocks! And I'm keeping them!"

WTH? There was nothing special that I could tell about those rocks; they weren't gemstones, they weren't tumbled, they weren't colorful or particularly pretty or well shaped... Seriously, it was a bag of plain, ordinary rocks!

Dang, now I'm curious! I never pictured him as the Daddy type, let alone the Grampa type.

Do you suppose Gramps got stuck with the grandkids for the day and took 'em all to Disneyland? That mental image just kills me!

Swim class is coming up, so I need to finish searching for DS's swim shirt. There's only one more place I can think to look, otherwise we'll just go without. I need to pick up DS7 from basketball camp early, then head over to the swim class. Time will be tight, so hopefully DS7 will "shake a leg".

I refuse to buy school supplies this year....she has this plastic dresser thingie in her closet that is 30 in...wide and 3 ft. tall and she has the bottom drawer filled with ever supply she could get her hands on...and I bought half of it or most and i would ask what happened to the stuff I got you and I would be told I used it, or i lost it or my personal favorite...SOMEONE STOLE IT...yea the closet fairy took it....

Sorry Alex, DH was going to go workout, so I jumped on the computer. Then 2 minutes later he came back cranky and thinking he was going to die, so I got off the computer.

Yeah, I wonder about that with DS4, too. He did fine in preschool, but when Daddy was coaching his soccer team he was constantly goofing off or hanging on Daddy or otherwise "taking advantage." DH got really frustrated with him.

Dizzy's son had a similar experience when her DH was coaching, but now that he started t-ball (Daddy isn't coaching) he's doing great! So maybe DS4 will do better without Daddy as his coach, too. We'll see.

Sadly all went well until DH couldn't stand by the side yesterday. (Alec still did awesome though because daddy is not his coach, just a helper). The guy would have the kids line up in a straight single file line, and the kid in front (IRREGARDLESS OF WHERE THE BALL WAS HIT) would run for it . OMG it was horrible to watch. The guy that usually helps was gone yesterday, so DH stepped in, gave some tips, and they played tball like normal human beings

I agree with you on not watching lessons. I dont watch dance. They have the one large room without a window and blinds on the other 2 windows so I couldnt even if I wanted to. At the classes they take through the city I always went in the lobby for the hour and read, during gymnastics and karate I run errands. They do better if I'm not watching too.


Unfortuntaly with Jake's swimming lessons you are required to stay. There are bleachers under shade and and so no place to hide. They are only 3 rows tall and I'm not going to kneel down behind them. I also wont spend the time in the bathroom.

Jake did better yesterday he was just afraid of the backstroke. he kept saying he was going to drown. We went to Target yesterday afterwards and he picked out a toy, any toy he wanted. When he thought we were going to get it I said IF you do the backstroke by yourself tomorrow then you get the toy right after. I'm all about bribing if it works. Especially for something important like swim lessons.

For me swimming isnt something we do because every other child is good at it. Its a life lesson. My kids HAVE to learn to swim. No options. Morgan is in swimming at night this session because even though she is a busy girl she HAS to take swimming. She's doing great and I probably put her in too low of a class but at least she will have a refresher coarse.

She also takes diving because she thought it would be fun. Now here is a sport that the girl stinks at. Half of her level 3 class moves to diving immediately afterwards and its funny to watch them learn to dive. Morgan goes and flips every time instead of diving straight down. Her legs just flop over and she does a back flop each time. Its really funny. All the parents cheer. (not in a mean, making fun of her way) She comes up laughing! Now do I expect her to be the best diver, of course not, but she is in it to learn to dive safely so when she goes over to a friends house and I hear that she dives off the board I know she knows the right way to do it and not get hurt. She is clearly the worst diver in the class and she LOVES it anyway. She has a blast during that one.

Jake is stubborn, he says he knows something and then he doesnt have to do it anymore. Like the backstroke, he did it for his last teacher but wont for this one. He's a guy and doesnt treat Jake like a baby. (This is my fault I am well aware of) Jake backs off of that a little and retreats. At least he isnt jumping out of the pool like he would have last year so we are growing with him.

I'll report on how the bribe worked later today.

Hope it worked! I'm all about bribery too. Sounds terrible, but it sure does work. But think about it this way. Adults work for bribes...........their pay check.

About sports and coaching, it works for alot of people. Some not. My nephew in law, coaches his DDs soccer team, and the girls have done wonderful. Like I said, it all depends on the child, and of course the parent.

I just got back from Super Target. I bought some "Mini Pesto Pull Apart Rolls." Oh my goodness, those things are good. They don't need anything at all on them. Yummy. Also bought their raisen cinnamon swirl bread. Also very good. Can you tell I was on a bread binge?

The bribe did not work. He cried and did not do his backstroke on his back. He did however swim farther doing freestyle than he ever had. He got out and said he still wanted the toy. I said "good thing we have Monday to try this again then" So no toy today but the bribe still stands.
