Thanks for the ideas girls! I will try to get a gift certificate to babies R us or something that will have all the things she needs and the gift basket idea and then I will see if there is anything else she wants. I was thinking about getting her some baby ugg boots, but she won't even be walking so how often do they even wear shoes??
I got most of my stuff at Target and Walmart when my kids were babies. Just remember that Babies are us is a little more expensive. and no, babies arent supposed to wear hard soled shoes before they start walking, it can mess up their feet.
Hi Christina!

What's up? Aww...baby uggs sound cute! :cutie: Those are real popular here but I can't picture myself wearing them. I don't think I could pull off the Uggs look....I would probably look like an Eskimo! :rotfl:

What about those baby socks that have the padding on the bottom to prevent slipping? My cousin used to buy tons of those for Emilee when she was little, but that's because she ran around the house like crazy! :rotfl:

The socks would work well when the are older, but if the baby isnt walking they have no need for it. Not that babies have no need for socks! just not the grippy ones yet!

Okay... good news from the Staley house. I got a child support check!!!! A whopping $20.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: First check in 2 months, and it is $20.:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

:cheer2: $20, time to celebrate :rotfl: :rotfl2:

hmm, what can you do with $20?

A quick run to Subway will net you 4 footlongs, but then you have to pay for the tax

hmmm, how about 12 bottles of Dr Pepper?

You're living in style now Staley :thumbsup2

:lmao: :lmao: I KNOW! Big money! I can only hope it is from a first paycheck or something... Hopefully. But probably not.

Hiya Bernice,

Wow, those are really some interesting things to read. But I'm so glad to hear that E is doing well and that his home dialysis is agreeing with him.:thumbsup2That is what is important. It is unfortunate that we have to be pushy to get the best for our health, but it's a reality.

As a matter of the heart, we all want to hear that every patient should receive whatever medical care is the best. But as a practical side, health care is a very expensive resource and the reality is that rationing can and does happen all the time. I doubt if most people notice it unless they have someone in their close family that suffers from a major medical expense.

Right now from my diagnosis, mastectomy, chemo, radiation, reconstruction and countless medications, doctor visits and scans I figure has cost my HMO between $400,000-$500,000 over the last 1-1/2 years. It is just staggering to think of how much it would cost a person that didn't respond to treatment as well as I did. Or to think about someone like your DH that has a medical condition that continues for years.

I have already decided that if my breast cancer comes back in my chest or lungs that I will fight it with chemo & radiation because there is a good chance that I could live 5-10 years longer. If it comes back in my bones I will fight it also, once again good chance of living many "quality" years. If it comes back in my liver, then depending on how bad I may refuse treatment. If it comes back in my brain, I almost surely will refuse treatment other than surgery & radiation ie. no chemo. Being treated with most chemo is not a good quality of life. I would rather have 3 months of good life and 3 months dieing than 6 months of horrific chemo & dieing.

So, have I depressed everyone over their lunch now?:lmao: Seriously, we are all going to die at some point. I can't control when or of what I die of, but I can control to some extent how I die. Yep, there I go wanting control of everything!:rotfl2:

I checked my account before heading to Super Target yesterday-- thinking hmm, just enough to pay a bill and get a few things.. oooooooooooooooooo

That looks MUCH more than I thought I had ... woohooo, got our renter's rebate already- YES! it pays to be poor, disabled and renting

MN has a program where renters get back part of the property tax paid paid in rent. If you are disabled, you get additional exemptions - basically lowers your gross income. Based on our income just in MN , and rent paid just in MN -- we got back over $900.

Can we say school clothes are paid ? (Boys and professional clothes for hubby) Plus bookshelves and storage shevling for the 50 some boxes due to arrive on Tuesday :faint:

I still have three boxes that I have yet to unpack, not to metion the explosionof books stacked in the hallway.. blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Yep! It's expensive and these decisions are made all the time.. media likes to paint the pretty picture, but that's not reality. it will be interesting to see how QALY unfolds and directs a state paid health care program (if that ever happens).

You had EPO (erythroprotein, builds red blood cells) too right? ( I've read of cancer patients receiving it to combat anemia and the symptoms-- tired all the time) I'm always amazed how much that little vial costs and the per dose cost--- E gets 5000 units once per week. I believe it's over $300 a dose.

Controlling your health and death is a basic right. I can totally understand choosing how to live out your life.

We haven't discussed it much.. but refusing treatment is an option if he does ever get very ill.

I was just reading an article in a local paper, MN Women's Press, and how we should write up a "death plan" just like women make their birth plans.

It doesn't mean we can plot out excatly WHEN to die.. just like birth plans, things go wrong or not as expected.. but a basic framework of HOW to die with dignity and love is important..

hmm, but wouldn't making money ON the table (or even NEXT TO ) be better for all parties invloved? :lmao:

Clunk Clunk Clunk, owww headache...

I'm pretty sure all the insurance companies and states are making decisions like that right now, they just aren't advertising the fact.

I didn't have EPO, I had Neupogen to build up the white blood cells. Different chemos do different things to your blood. My chemos messed more with the white blood cells.

Sorry for the delay. You guys are going to love this story....my sister is here at work with me. She comes in with me to go to the attorneys office and to keep busy. I've had her helping me the last 2 days.

At this very moment I am Dising and she is inputting info. on our general ledger!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Good morning everyone!!

I have a question for all you mothers

My SIL just had a baby girl a month ago. Dh and I will see her and dh's new niece in September. What kind of things does a three month old baby need? We missed her shower so we'll be bringing her a late gift. Also, should I bring a gift for the mom? And we are really slow at getting things done and we never did send her a congratulations card, the baby is a month old now, should we still send one or is it too late?

I am so clueless when it comes to babies so you guys have to help me!!
When I was having babies, it was fun to give/get the cute gifts: Adorable clothes, jammies, cute onesies with funny sayings, fun little colorful toys.

But as an actual mom, I came to appreciate the wisdom of more practical gifts: electronic thermometer (Braun makes an awesome one!), cheapie $5 thermometers (more accurate with the under-one-year set, especially a rectal thermometer), Infant Tylenol, Infant Motrin. When you need that stuff, you need it YESTERDAY!

And I didn't know at first that you can use the Tylenol and Motrin at the same time! Babies' temps climb very high rapidly, and it's scary. And then baby won't eat or sleep, will be sluggish and whiny. Motrin works better to drop the fever quickly, and you can also use Tylenol at the same time to help keep the temp down while the Motrin is wearing off (and before you can give another dose of it.) So I'd give Motrin, then a few hours later give Tylenol. It makes a world of difference, really! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

And Tylenol is just a good all-around thing to have, to help with teething, use before getting shots (and babies get TONS of shots!) or other aches and pains. I don't think I ever used it on a plane, but because it makes some kids drowsy, I know some people use it to calm a crying baby on a flight.

Could also get a boo-boo buddy, basically an ice pack for kids. I've seen ones shaped like bears, cute! Here's a picture of a Nemo one on this page:

I actually do need to get back to work. Trying to get the financial statements for June finished up today and tomorrow. So I can be read for bills that start arriving again on Monday! Yipee!!!

That was actually Sam's sister's response, not Sam. ;)
She needs a DIS/hyena name, though...

Nope, first I was interviewing her. Then she was interviewing me, but then her phone rang. So yeah I guess it was my quote.

When she signed up for the DIS she was either 2goofy4u or Iam2goofy4u. She can't remember which one, so I guess we can just call her 2goofy!

Much easier than calling her my sister! Now we can have proctor mom and 2goofy mom!:lmao: :thumbsup2
