Chase Visa asked me for my security code-is this ok?

I called Chase via the number on the back of my Disney Visa to ask a question. I mentioned we are going to FL next month, and the rep asked for the dates to note my account. No problem with that, just surprised they also asked for the security code on the back of the card. Is this customary, or should I be concerned?

If you called the number them asking for the code may just be to ensure you have the card in hand, not just the account numbers.

I agree. Now, if you had received the call instead of making it to the number on your care, then I would be concerned.

They did that to me as well it was just to make sure you really have the card in hand.

I also have a code word on my account (and it is not my mother's maiden name).

I called to notify them that I'd be travelling last month and they asked for the security code. I also got an email confirming that I had actually requested the change and to contact them if not.

I think it's just one more layer of security to make sure you actually have the card in hand.

A side note, my SIL (despite my many warnings) did not call Chase before our cruise and they eventually froze her account. It was a pain for her. So worth making that 5 min. phone call.

You can also do it online in your account. I always do it that way now and I get a confirmation e-mail from Chase. It is easy and faster than calling!
