bumbershoot-
Free Rewards aren't hidden and the bank prefer you use SOME sort of rewards program because in the long room it saves them money if you sign for purchases (which you have to do to earn rewards)...
Yeah, the banker would push the Leisure Rewards (the current $25/year debit card reward program) because they get points for it. Points dictate how much they are paid at the end of the month.
If you use your debit card, though, it's easy! I know several people who cash in their rewards at the end of the year for gift cards and those are their Christmas presents!
It actually was never told to me until I turned down the one with a charge. I was part of the wamu/chase switchover, the ONLY reason I was talking about debit cards was b/c I needed mine replaced, I never got any info on any rewards program until she started talking about the $25 one (which wasn't a disney one at the time).
So for me, at that branch, it was indeed hidden, until after I turned down the other.
The rewards stuff that is now all over their website was NOT there before, at least, not for those of us in the changeover.
All that said, how times have changed! We actually just signed up for the disney rewards debit card the other day. I realized that we're paying our credit union $25 to enroll in their credit card rewards program, and since we're not going to be using that card anymore (once we get to the the redemption level to get a $50 gc) and we're not going to be enrolled in their rewards program, that we weren't 100% opposed to paying to get rewards.
And since we have to keep this account open until we're done with our Chase car loan, we figured we might as well get something for it. Since there's the $25 disney dollars after the first 5 transactions, even if all we "get" is a cuter card, I'm cool with that.
And their info says that you earn the rewards on transactions that you do NOT use the PIN for...so even though it's a debit card, seems you don't earn rewards on actual "debit" transactions. Little confusing!
