Chase to rollout Disney DEBIT card rewards TODAY 8-12-09!!!

I use my debit card on a daily basis, since I NEVER have cash on me=) This is something I might consider! Thanks OP for the heads up!!!!

Last week I had to go into my local branch because I de-magnetized my debit card so I had to order a new one. While I was in there the rep tried to get me to sign up for their debit rewards program for $25/year. I told him "no thanks" and he looked at me like I was crazy and started crunching numbers to show me what a deal it was. Um, I said "no thanks". Heck, they even try to promote things while you are at the drive-thru..."Why don't you come in and sign up for [insert promotion here]".

I'll stick to my no annual fee Disney Visa reward card.

LOL...I had to talk to a "banker" over a demagnetized card as well. Sidenote, she messed the entire transaction up, I have no idea how she did that but she did it!

BAck to the point, she told me that I could sign up for the superduper program for $25/month, I said no. She said OK, then told me that I'd still get a rewards program (lower of course) for free by using my debit card.

You can tell she's originally from wamu and not quite used to Chase, to tell me that as soon as I said no, right?

bumbershoot-
Free Rewards aren't hidden and the bank prefer you use SOME sort of rewards program because in the long room it saves them money if you sign for purchases (which you have to do to earn rewards)...

Yeah, the banker would push the Leisure Rewards (the current $25/year debit card reward program) because they get points for it. Points dictate how much they are paid at the end of the month.
If you use your debit card, though, it's easy! I know several people who cash in their rewards at the end of the year for gift cards and those are their Christmas presents!

this is pretty interesting

Someone tell me, does Chase allow electronic transfers like ING and Ally Bank do?

I'm thinking of opening an account just to do this. Can anyone link me to info?

The CU I work for offers free checking and free debit, but I use debit for EVERYTHING, so this might actually pay in the long run.

I use my debit card every single day, but I don't think I'd ever pay an annual fee for it. Crazy!

Why not just use the Disney Visa and pay it off every month? That's what I do!

That clearly works for some and for you which is great! I do that as well for the most part. But with the lowered credit limits and the hassle of spending and paying off without incurring interest (not everyone can be manage to do this every month, me included) it is much more convenient to use a debit card and accumulate rewards.

But each person has to evaluate what works best for their needs, this will definitely work for ours.

I worked at chase for 3 years and let me tell you we are pushed and pushed to meet quotas for getting people to sign up or sit with a banker. You get in trouble if you dont meet that sales quota it is every bit as high pressure as car sales. Banking shouldnt be that way but that is how Chase is. I cannot even count how many times we are told during the day that we should be asking every person to meet with a banker....

Not to bash you, but you can tell that things have changed at Chase. My dad banks there, and they are now just super pushy. Plus he has had a couple of instances where someone accessed his account and the bank was less than helpful.

I don't bank with Chase now, and quite frankly, I would be scared to.

I wouldn't touch anything from Chase - no matter how many rewards they were offering..

I would also never pay a fee to have a debit card.. I have several - with no fees attached..

It's good news for those who are comfortable with it though..:goodvibes

I already have the leisure rewards card and it's $25/yr. I earn about 10x that amount in GCs though so it's worth it to me. DH has had his free rewards program since the beginning so 3+yrs and he hasn't earned enough points for anything yet.

I haven't heard anything about the new Disney debit but I'll ask at the branch when I'm in there next.

pay a fee for a debit card and get 1/2 the rewards dollars than with a visa card? NO THANKS!
I'm just waiting for another company to offer Disney Rewards cards!

I wish! But that won't happen.
I was looking at this but we have nothing Chase anywhere around us, so that would be a real pain as far as ATMs etc..now if you could do a bunch of electronic stuff maybe..so we'll see...maybe if I could easily get the money that isn't for bills in there (bill pay free and our main jobs are at businesses too small for automatic deposit) I'd give it a try if there was a way to have the fee waived.

I have my car financed through chase so I set up an access checking with them that I hardly ever use, I bank with a local credit union in my town. I have a debit card with this, do you think they would give me a disney debit of would I need a regular checking account?

You would probably need to set up a checking account I would think. If I were you I would call a banker at Chase and ask.

i ordered my disney debit card last week! They offered it earlier in Ohio. I should have mine any day now!

I received mine last week. I figured out that it would benefit our family and we like to stay away from credit cards. It actually earns points about twice as fast as the free reward program. We figured we would try it for a year and could always change back. After 5 qualifying transactions, you earn $25 rewards dollars so the fee is a wash for the first year anyways. I did 6 transactions the first day - not for the rewards but because we use it that much anyways. I am not happy with Chase when it comes to my DH credit card that he has had for years but we have been happy with them for our checking and savings. We don't pay fees for our account and the couple times that I deposited other people's checks and they didn't clear the persons account, Chase did not charge us. Alot of banks do charge. The locations are good for us and we have not had any issues related to our checking/savings accounts. Besides, I love Disney and having Mickey on my debit card.
