Chase closed my (used to be WaMu) credit card....

when you logged on to your account, did it say closed??

My acct does not say it's closed, it still shows an available balance. I'm waiting for a pending credit before paying off the card in full, once I get that bye bye baby! lol

SO in today's mail, I get a letter from chase closing my account, originally with Providian, then WAMU!!!!!!!!!

Oh well!

I wonder if anyone who used to have a WaMu *still* has a card.

OR

If anyone who only had ever had a CHASE card, has had their card closed.

Hmmm.......

Nope. Ours shows that it is still open with the full available credit line. :confused3

The person DH talked to on the phone last nite said they closed the account on July 14th and that the website would be updated WITHIN 60 DAYS!!

Still no notice here that this was going to happen.

Our Disney Visa is still fine as far as we know. I may go charge something small on it (like put gas in the car) just to check.

teasing...;)
Better make sure you have enough cash in your hand in case the card is declined. LOL :rolleyes1
(and before anyone slams me for my joking... this is an inside joke between Clarabelle and myself) no need to come to her defense.

that is kinda scary esp if you were on vacation or such and were planning on using your card.

Our credit card is Chase...no changes. They haven't reduced our limit either and we've never charged anything in one month close to our limit.

I'll just go to Royal Farms by your house then call you to come bring me cash! :rotfl:

few months ago i got the letter about the interest going up.
last month i got the letter with new cards. i never activated the cards. cuz im trying to pay it off..
today i get the dreaded we canceled ur account letter. i laughed and told my dh that there is a thread on dis site about this. he laughed at me.. then i cut the card up.
we still have one card left and its got no balance. i guess the payment i was making on that card ill make extra payments on this wumu/chase card and kill the balance..
cant say that im too upset about it though.
doesnt sound to me like the company is worth anything :rolleyes1

Hi All,
I am so glad I ran across this thread. We have two accounts with Chase that used to be WaMu. Our accts listed on their website don't say that they are closed and we have not received a letter yet. Has anyone called the 800 number on the back of their cards and found out that way that their acct. has been closed or did you actually have to talk to a customer service rep.? I just called and it gave me my balance, etc but I didn't talk to anyone. I am going to be REALLY ticked off if they jacked up our interest rates and then closed our accounts. That is about as crooked as they come! Sorry to hear this has happened to so many good people, especially in these terrible economic times. No doubt they'll get a good dose of what they gave out in the end tho!

Thanks,
Lisa

When I open(ed) my checking account information, is where I saw my WaMu/Chase card showing 'closed'.

When I logged onto (and even today) the credit card site, it shows my balance and available credit.

When I called (before I spoke with anyone) it told me balance and available credit.

The only way I knew it was indeed closed was: Opening my checking account info page (where it also listed my CC) and when I called and spoke with someone.

HTH.

When DH called he was able to get all of the info on the automated line about balance, payment due, etc... but he had to talk to an actual human to find out that the account was indeed closed. Nothing on the website or automated phone line indicated that anything about the account was amiss.

I got mine too, it says I have "too many accounts over the limit" ummm, I have NO accts over any limits......

I wonder if anyone who used to have a WaMu *still* has a card.

Hmmm.......

DBF had WaMu as his bank, he had a WaMu card, his bank is now Chase, his cc is now Chase, he has NO Problems at all with his switch over.

I had to call them to see what the "issue" with my card was when I did try to use it. I'm still ticked about this, I think it's majorly wrong of them to do this. My acct history with this card is stellar, it makes NO sense at all.

Hi All,
Thanks so much for you responses. The suspense was killing me so I called Chase and after being on hold for almost 20 minutes spoke to a customer rep named Alexis. I told her I had been reading on the internet that Chase bank was raising APR's and then closing people's accts. I told her altho it was showing them on the internet that their accounts were still open they were in fact closed and these people weren't finding out until they tried to use their cards and had them denied. She looked at both my accounts and told me that they were currently still open. Uh...currently? As in you'll close them soon but haven't gotten to me yet?! She told me they always contacted their customers to let them know their accounts had been closed. I told her about the batch of letters that supposedly went out on the 7th and that 2 weeks was a little long for a letter to have not gotten to someone buy now. I asked her if they were going to close all accts that were once WaMu and all she would say was they send a letter to all their customers letting them know their accounts are closed. I have a feeling if ours haven't been closed by now I'll be blacklisted for this call and they soon will be.....LOL! BTW, I love how they say "Your wait time to speak to an ADVISOR is greater than 10 minutes!". I guess they figure eventually you'll get tired of holding and listening to their $ucky music and hang up. Anyway, thanks to all who posted about this underhanded practice by Chase. I hope Clark Howard or Suze Orman or somebody that's on tv gets this piece of info and really gives it to them good.

Thanks for listening!
Lisa

DH has a Chase card, formerly a WAMU card, that is still open. I guess it is probably only a matter of time until the hammer drops...

Had I known, I had $7000 I could have booked a hearty trip with... ;)

Those of us who had this happen could have had a jolly good grand gathering, huh? :)

Well, DH got the dreaded letter today for his account. I still haven't gotten one for mine, but I really wouldn't be surprised to see one coming soon. Both accounts are still showing up online as open and as having available credit.

What irks me is that we have never been over the limit, always paid more than the minimum, and have never been late. We are being penalized for being customers in good standing. As far as I'm concerned, good riddance!

Ditto to all you said.

It's amusing that Wamu found us credit worthy enough to continually automatically raise our limit every year, but Chase - not only raised our percentage rate - but then also closed, the same exact card.

Our credit card is Chase...no changes. They haven't reduced our limit either and we've never charged anything in one month close to our limit.

same here, i have three chase cards and no changes,(knock on wood grain finish)

So I've been lurking the past few days reading this thread and I have a question.
I have a Visa that used to be WaMu and is now chase, they actually sent me a replacement card after they took over. I am paying off a balance now, can I still close the account before Chase closes it themselves and continue to make payments on the balance. I was planning on closing the account anyway after the balance was gone but I don't want this to look bad on my CR since the account is in good standing right now. And yes, they have jacked up my rate in the past couple months 29.9%!! :scared1: At this rate I'll never get it paid off!! :confused3
