Chase Cash Plus Rewards turning to Chase Freedom :-(

Well that just sucks! Got the notice in the mail today. Instead of ALWAYS getting 5% back on groceries, gas & pharmacy with the cash plus, now the freedom will have rolling opportunities monthly that you have to sign up for to get 5% on whatever category they're offering. I knew the cash plus reward card wouldn't last too much longer but what a shame. Between my card and my husbands we would earn enough points to get a $50 check every other month.

When does the 5% end? I have had this card for about 10 years, and I LOVE it! (or should I say LOVED it?)
I have not received my notice yet.

It says, "you will begin earning points with every purchase you make beginning on or about June 24, 2011. Your new Chase Freedom card will arrive by 8/15/11."

There is also a blurb about every reward points you currently have will be carried over at an equal rate. mmm maybe I should see what we have we and order reward cards now if I have enough points.

I got a call a few months ago from Chase Bank in my area wanting me to switch to this card. I'm like heck no what I have is better. I don't have to worry about signing up every 3 months for cashback offers. Plus the gas and grocery is where we spend the majority of our charge dollars. Any travel or entertainment offers, we wouldn't get the benefits from.

Thanks for the info. I will definately miss this card, but like you, I knew it was too good to last much longer. I also hate having to sign up for different rewards every quarter.

It seems that is how all of the cash rewards cards are going now.

I am a merchant and review our bank fees frequently. Reward cards cost the business who accepts your card so much! It's not like we can look at your card and say "oh, that is a Visa Signature (the most expensive), we don't take those". Merchants get screwed in the whole process of consumers "getting rewards", even if you Mrs Consumer pay an annual fee. The only ones that benefit are the banks and the credit card companies like Visa/MC.

Aw bummer! I have this card and love it. My current card expires this year so I wonder if I'll get the dreaded notice soon too. Ugh...

I remember some people saying it was ending last year. It seems like they're eliminating it in stages. I haven't received any kind of notice so I will happily keep using it as long as I can!
