Chase 5% restaurants

I was just wondering if anyone knows if Disney restaurants are categorized as "restaurants" for the Chase Freedom 5%. We just got the card. I don't think some things actually show up as what they are (ex. the gas station down the street does not show up as gas, but the bigger chain stations do)

Our Disney trip will be in August and we will not be doing the Dining Plan this time. I will have over $500 Disney Rewards Dollars (thanks, kitchen renovation ;) ), but if I can get 5% paying for food with my cc we will just put the rewards dollars toward the room cost when we arrive.

Thanks!

bump...

I'm sure someone knows.

Perhaps I could try the Restaurant board, but the Budget board is my favorite :flower3:

For my Amex card, all of the Disney restaurants we ate at (hotels and theme parks) were under the category of restaurant.

I hope Chase categorizes them the same way, as I'm planning on using my card when we go in Aug. too. :thumbsup2

I'd like to know this myself. We recently received our chase freedom card and went to Quick Check for gas forgot it would be considered a convenience store so no 5%. We are thinking about going to Disney in August and also not doing the free dining since we have tickets already and received a 30% off pin. For 5% I would use my freedom and pay it when we get home, otherwise I would probably just attach it to my ressie and use the keys to the world. Linda :)

Oh no Linda. What do you mean? We have a grocery store attached to our big food store that allows you to buy gift cards for gas and vice versa. I was planning on using CHASE at the gas station to buy gift cards and wondered if chase would consider this a fuel purchase.....What do you mean gas vs. convience...thanks!

it all depends on how the business registered themselves with the credit card company. we have a convenience store chain in my area, WaWa, where some stores sell gas. When they registered with Discover they are listed as Gasoline. even when you purchase coffee in the convenience store it shows up as a Gasoline purchase (which works in my favor since i have the card with double points for gas purchases). some stores can split their category where the gas pumps are gasoline but the convenience store is something else. i imagine they are creating two 'accounts' with the card company to do this so i have no idea how easy/cost effective this is to know what the likelihood of it happening often. (i've only noticed it once and i don't remember where we were)

so you might not know until you try something how it is categorized. and with Chase the category that shows up on your statements might not be the category they are using for rewards. the categories on your statements are there for your convenience, you would have to speak with someone at Chase for the actual category used for rewards. you could try calling in advance but i would suspect that they don't have a list of every merchant available to the phone reps to see what category it is. best bet is to do a small test purchase, when it hits the statement, call and ask how that will be classified for the rewards program.

Thank you! I will check my CC statements for the category. Appreciate it!

That's reassuring.

I was very excited when I saw the categories for Aug are gas and restuarants. We're driving (1300 miles each way + I think we're taking a little side trip to visit my brother and his family who just moved to FL) and we never eat out a home, but I'm sure we will spend plenty at Disney to feed our family of 5 for two weeks. :thumbsup2

As for the other comments, I was a bit irritated that our local gas station (the only business in our rural village) does not count as "gas" but we have already gotten into the habit of using the Sunoco in the next town over (where DH & I both work) for most of our fill ups since we get money off through our grocery store. We always have at least 50cents off per gallon every time we need to fill the tank.

I just used my Chase card in Feb at Whispering Canyon and here is how it appeared on my chase statement

DINING-WHISPERING C
LAKE BUENA VI, FL

Hope this helps
