Chart to compare perks?

Yep, DISboards has a dedicated thread for each hotel on-property. A top-notch place to find a plethora of information about any single specific resort. The first post of each thread is very thorough.

Readers should observe the posted date (in the upper left of each post), and then the last-edited date (at the bottom right of each post)… to gauge how current the information may or may not be. I happened across some errors in those threads about perks (example: merchandise delivery), that were misleading — due to Disney changes in the last couple years, certainly NOT the authors’ faults at all.

It’s the recent changes to the perks specifically that compelled me to start this thread about hotel categories, rather than any individual hotel-to-hotel comparison.

There was a similar thread a few months ago where someone was attempting to quantify where to stay based on criteria that ended up with lots of discussion. I see the same issues here. I think it will be challenging to create something that works for lots of people. If you have never stayed @ Disney, then you likely don't know what your preferences will be and/or which things matter the most to you. If you are a frequent Disney visitor, then you already know what your preferences are. Mostly where you stay will depend on your budget and subjective things like theming along with which of the 4 parks you plan to visit the most. I doubt most people decide where to stay based on the availability of a microwave oven. Having the information in chart format doesn't eliminate the need to keep it updated based on what the current practices are.

What things used to formerly be offered won't matter to someone new to Disney who likely wouldn't know those things were ever offered.

I would also be curious to see a chart like this, might make one if I have some free time today.

Some good neighbor hotels get early entry, only Deluxe/DVC/Swan and Dolphin get late hours.

The good neighbor hotels with transportation and early entry also tend to have high parking and resort fees.

NO Good Neighbor Hotel gets early entry, they get no Disney Perks at all.

This is why I said a chart that aligns hotels that do not get Disney Perks with hotels that do is too confusing.

These are the hotels that get Early Entry, and could be part of a chart system comparing hotels that get Disney perks.

These are Good Neighbor hotels and they get NO Disney Perks.

Then there are hotels that are closer with better amenities than the Good Neighbor hotels that should be included on a "No Disney Perk" chart to compare their other amenities.

I didn't realize Good Neighbor hotels were a protected class. Seems overly-particular to me, but I guess the ones that do get early entry are called "Walt Disney World Official Hotels", which seems like a category between on-site and good neighbor.

There are ~
~ Walt Disney World Resorts
~ WDW Official Hotels*
~ WDW Gateway Hotels*

* These get some Disney Perks.

THEN there are ~
~ Good Neighbor Hotels which is nothing more than they are AAA approved plus offer a list of specific amenities to guests. Disney has their seal of approval and lists them on their website (including packages). They are often confused with the above and sadly some book them expecting Disney Perks. That is why I always post when these convos happen so someone doesn't book them expecting Disney Perks. Most Good Neighbor are not considered deluxe level hotels. I've stayed at about a dozen and while not deluxe they often offer way more than a Disney resort, have full housekeeping, less fees, suites for less than a Disney value and more.

I think this confusion is because WDW & Disneyland both use the phrase Good Neighbor Hotels. With Disneyland having only 3 official hotels, they treat their Good Neighbor hotels a lot differently. Some of the Good Neighbor hotels @ DL are closer to the park entrances than actual DL hotels. WDW has plenty of their own hotels & other hotels much closer physically. So the Good Neighbor designation doesn’t mean the same thing. I hardly ever even hear that category of hotel talked about in relation to WDW. But anyone who’s used to staying at a DL Good Neighbor hotel is going to be disappointed expecting the same at WDW.

Yes, Disney Springs hotels are included & have been for a few years. Despite what Touring Plans calls them, they are not in the list the WDW website of Good Neighbor hotels. And none of the hotels that Disney lists receive Early Entry.

No one is saying that No offsite hotels get Early Entry. They do. Disney says “select hotels”. It’s the phrasing being used that’s the issue. If anyone went to the WDW website & searched for Good Neighbor hotels, they’d get the list I posted. And none of those hotels is included for Early Entry. These are the hotels included for early entry. And not one of the hotels Disney lists as “Good Neighbor” is included.
