Charleston/West Ashley, SC questions...

Hi all,

I have a couple of book signings in the Charleston/West Ashley, SC area in late August and I need some ideas on where to eat. What are some of your favorites?

And if you can recommend a hotel, that would be great also.

Did you want to stay in downtown Charleston or closer to West Ashley? Most of the downtown hotels are really nice but very exprensive, especially during the summer tourist season. There are a lot of nice hotels in North Charleston near the airport. That is a halfway point between Charleston and West Ashley. Look into The Embassy Suites or Residence Inn. Both are on Montague (I believe) in North Charleston near the airport. Good Luck.

We usually stay at the Springhill Suites Riverview when vititing son at the Citadel. It is across the bridge from downtown on the West Ashley side of the river. California Dreaming near the hotel is good. Gillian's on the Savannah Highway is a favorite. It is about 10 miles going toward Savannah. Turn left going to James Island.

Lot's of great places to eat. Have fun!

I'm sorry that I won't be in the lower part of the state in August. Your book sound great for 2nd grade. When I can tell the students that I met the author it makes the book walk meaningful for them. Good luck with your book.

If you want to stay on the West Ashley side, there is a brand new Hawthorn Suites that just opened last month. I'm sure it would be good for business travel and I don't think that many people even realize that it's open yet. It's right on Savannah Highway (US17). I'm planning on staying there when we weekend in Charleston in the fall.

As to food on that side of the river, I second the vote for California Dreaming. Great salads, etc. and a fantastic water view. I'd also recommend Bessinger's for barbecue.
