Charging to your room

When you charge to your room does that have to take each transaction off your credit card or can you attach a credit card for security but then pay the balance at the end?

We're coming from New Zealand so have exchange rates to worry about. We can purchase a travel card now to take advantage of good exchange rates, but that card won't be able to be attached to the WDW account because it's not a real credit card.

The balance is kept on your room account to be paid at the end - I specifically asked about that as I was planning to pay off my balance in cash at the end of my trip. But, I believe it can only reach a certain amount before they'll charge it to the card and clear the balance to start over - I think it can reach $500 before they'll clear it overnight.

I think it might be $500 for the values, and up to $1500 for the deluxe hotels before they charge your card? I'm sure somebody can chime in here with the exact amounts.

Oh awesome, thanks heaps for that.

I can always go and pay it off as it nears $500 if that's the case. :)

Correct. And $1000 for moderates.

yes those are the correct amounts! I will say to avoid having them charge your cc on file go down to the front desk the night before your check out date otherwise you may get charged the morning of your check out before you have a chance to pay the balance. What I do is at a mid point in our vacation I will go to the front desk and pay our balance then again the night before we check out! Hope this helps! Have a great trip!!

It is very easy to pay it off without having your cc charged. We charged everything to our room last year and then I went down the evening before we left and paid off everything with Disney gift cards.

. . . you can just pay the night before checkout
. . . if you reach the room limit, you go down and pay it to zero
. . . limits are $500 (value), $1000 (Mod), $1500 (Deluxe & DVC)
. . . if you hit the limit away from hotel, have the cashier call the resort
. . . they can charge your card and reset to zero

. . . I "assume" your travel card is a VISA/AMEX/MasterCard cash card
. . . you can use that as a deposit for room charges
. . . just like a credit card
. . . present it at check-in and you can charge against the room

Just so you know, I had Visa gift cards that I planned on using to pay off our room balance at OKW in March, however they said that I wasn't able to use them at the front desk, only for merchandise or in the parks. I don't know if that's true or if the manager simply didn't know how to fix the issue. To be on the safe side, you might want to use those cards to purchase Disney gift cards, while you're there, which I know always work to pay your room charge.

Have a great trip!
