Charging on Magic Band and Keeping Expenses Separate...How Do I Do This at Pop?

Yes it really depends on the individual CM at the Front desk. That's why it is always advisable to make an initial quick check by making a QS purchase and to double check your charges daily and again on the morning your Check-out if you have multiple Cards on your resort folio.

Your situation does happen from time to time the resort IT system blips out overnight. It gets reset and defaults to the Primary Guest's Credit/Debit card. Your Charges are listed by your Name (from MB) since you used a individual PIN. Just have the CM print the folio, mark the items you want moved and they can assign those charges to your Credit/Debit card or you can always pay using cash or Gift Cards at any time during your resort stay.

Note: Yes the Front desk CM can also fix issues after check-out. It just takes longer so it is best to check before the final morning.

Thanks for posting this, @Dave006. I didn't realize that that had happened.

But because this does happen and would require perhaps multiple trips to the front desk, I still advise against it. The OP's friend could just use their cc. It's not really a big deal. I do it all the time now. Takes maybe 20 seconds longer than using one's MB and there's no need to check every day to see where the charges ended up.

It is not a big effort to use MDE to check your resort charges. We normally do it while waiting in line or for our Mobile orders to be ready.

True, but if the charges are showing up on the wrong person's account, then you have to do something about it, and going to the front desk is, to me, an unwanted interruption in my vacation time.

If two people are staying in the same room and want to keep purchases separate, I would use my credit card to make purchases and not bother with the magic band. Then you aren't left to decide which charge was made by whom. While some have had success with doing something at the front desk to keep things separate, others report that doesn't always work.

Hi all! OP here. Thanks for your thoughts and feedback. My gal pal and I are headed to WDW on Wednesday, so we are getting excited!

I always get Disney gift cards from Target (5% off) before I go, and I always pay off what I charge back to my room via my magic band each night when I arrive back at my resort. My goal is to have a $0 balance before I check out, so nothing goes on my cc.

I've never shared a room with a non family member. My friend will want to charge things on her magic band back to the room and use her cc. Now that I know what may or may not happen, we'll have a chat on our way to WDW to figure out how we want to proceed. It's good to know that-in theory-we can set up our own charging with our own magic bands and-in theory- have all of our charges separated on the room folio. However, it's also good to know that it's not foolproof (because, Disney IT).

If we decide to go ahead and try the two magic bands/two separate charging streams on the room folio, we'll definitely to a quick "test" to make sure, and we'll watch charges carefully. If things become a hot mess, I'll just use my gift cards directly and skip charging on the magic band.

One thing I'm still confused about...several folks have indicated there is a way to check room charges when you're out and about through MDE. I never knew I could do this. How, exactly do I do this? I've opened MDE on my phone and scrolled through everything, I can't find an area where charges look like they might be reported. Any advice?

Thanks so much for all of your help! I so appreciate the knowledge and wisdom of my Disfriends!!

That doesn’t make any difference. When using a MB to pay, it is essentially charging to the room, not to the MDE account. With 1 room reservation everyone’s charges go to that same resort folio.

Oops, posting at the same time a Dave.

True enough, wasn’t to sure.

I know this does not apply to OP since it is only them, but I personally do not like carrying around GCs for a few reasons, you need to keep track of balance (last receipt), if you lose it anyone can use it, since our family consists of 4 people, I would have to give each person a GC or the person with the GC would always have to go in with the other person. Where as the MB has security by having a PIN code for protection, so each of us can purchase something without needing someone else there. I also buy a bunch of GCs and then combine them on disneygiftcard site so when I go I may have only 2 or 3 GCs. and not a bunch of GCs. I will keep the GCs in the safe and will grab one to payoff any room charges, every 2-3 days and of course the night before checking out. We rarely will have any charges go against our CC on file:)

On my last 3 WDW trips with friends, we were able to attach a credit card to each magicband for charges. In 2021, 4 of us stayed in one villa, and it was all under one reservation. They were still able to do 4 separate credit cards, on 4 separate magicbands. It's something they do at the front desk when you check in, upon request. I've done this at AKL Kidani, PORiverside, ASMu, and the Poly. Never been an issue! Have fun on your trip!!
