Charging My Room

Not sure if I'm posting in the right place but was wondering since I'm staying at Port Orleans Riverside, and the charging limit is $1000, if I deposit $1000 in cash at check-in, will I still have to leave a credit card on file? We don't like to use our credit card for any more purchases since it's near the limit and will not have $1000 clearance on the card, but also don't want to carry around that much cash. TIA

We never charge to the room, but I think you have to leave a cc on file, even if you want to pay for your charges another way. You can go to the front desk whenever you want and request a print out of your charges up to date and pay in cash at that time, but I think a cc still needs to be on file. Nothing is charged to the card until you get close to the charging limit, so as long as you check your charges and pay them before you get close to/reach the $1,000 limit, you should be ok. Hopefully others will be able to verify this or correct me if I'm wrong.

If you have a room only balance and give them a card for that, that still doesn't automatically set up room charging.

So if you don't want to leave a CC, and don't need the ability to charge to the room, you do not have to do so. You can just pay as you go.

You can even just click through the online checkin page regarding a CC, without putting in a CC.

I know a cc isn't needed unless you want room charging, but the OP does want charging privileges. She doesn't want to carry $1,000 around in cash, but also doesn't want her cc to be charged. She is asking if cash can be put on the account in place of a cc for charging back to the room. My understanding is that a cc must be on file for charging, but you can pay those charges by cash, gift card, etc at any time prior to reaching the limit to avoid your cc being charged.

The OP may also want to consider pre-paying her credit card account the $1000. and that will appear on her credit card account as a credit that she can charge against. It's no different than pre-paying for a pending charge on your credit card account before it posts. Some cards let you do this online automatically, and some require you to call the cards toll free number and explain that you want to pre-pay your card for the reason she stated. They should approve the pre-payment and then you can pay from your bank account to your credit card account online and have a credit of $1k to charge against while you are on vacation..

They don't charge your card until it reaches your charging limit. They just raised all the limits. I believe the mod's are now $1500. You can leave your card to set up room charging. Every couple of days, just stop by the front desk and ask for your folio. You can then pay off your charges. I'm pretty sure they won't accept a pre-payment. On your last evening, just pay off the balance of your folio then use cash the last day. Your card won't be charged.

I believe you actually can put cash down for charging, but not everyone has gotten a CM that knows how to set this up. If you can't get that to work, I would just add your credit card and stop by the front desk every few days to pay in cash. Or just keep track of your spending, and as you near the $1500 threshold, stop by the front desk so the charges don't try to go through on your card. Disney doesn't hold that amount against your credit, they just don't process your charges until you reach that amount with them internally.
