Charged for Taking Stateroom Item But Didn't!

Update: I got to thinking yesterday, after reading a few others' responses here that they never realized the same thing happened to them being charged and they hadn't realized or followed up. I said, let me check just for the heck of it my February and May 2012 cruises on the Dream just in case. February cruise was fine, but my May one I was also charged the $10! I can't believe it. I asked my TA to send another request for the removal of this charge as well, along with a note to complain to a supervisor that I am highly irritated that I was erroneously charged not once but twice in less than a year! I can't believe they have such an inaccurate system in place. I am also going to email DCL directly and ask for a specific list of things I need to check for in my stateroom from now on to make sure they are all there, although I'm not sure if even that will matter because the way they are so disorganized, I can see them easily charging for something that still is in the room altogether.

Its only $10 but still, now I'm up to $20 and when you look at that as money toward tips and other things, it is aggravating and I will fight to get it back. I could only view my last 12 months of CC statements so I can only hope I was not charged this excess $10 on my other 4 DCL cruises from 2004-2011 that I couldn't check!

I always check my statement post cruise, two of three cruises I've had erroneous charges of some sort.

Am I the only one who thinks this is kinda shady on DCL's part? If they can get $10 from 20% of the passengers who don't think to look or don't realise what is for...they are making a small fortune off this! In many staes there are laws so that stores cannot do this. It dissappoints me and makes me worried Disney is going to get sued over it eventually.

The hard thing is that the cruise line is actually based out if Nassau so it is their laws not FL law that pertains. Also to them it probably isn't a fake charge they just don't have a good system in place to make sure the right person gets charged for taking it.

I'm going to chose to believe this instead of Disney trying to make even more money from us!

Last cruise I was charged $15 for babysitting services. Luckily I looked at the bill before leaving the ship, went to guest services and had them remove it. They were nice about removing it but still made a comment like are you sure you didn't use the service. I'm like yeah, I have no kids, thank you. He was like sorry, it is easy to do a room typo. I'm like, really? Makes me wonder how many people get billed by mistake.

If there are items that they will charge for, they should post a list of what they are and what the cost is so you can check for it's presence when you board. Especially when you are talking items $200 and greater!

:thumbsup2 I agree.

We bought two of the cloth laundry bags on the Maiden Voyage of the Dream. There was a note with them that said we could buy them and to tell the stateroom host.

We took the pen and post cards on our last cruise. We were not charged anything. Now I am a bit worried. We are cruising next week and I had planned on taking the pen again. Maybe I shouldn't?!?!?

Don't worry about taking those, that is the one item they expect you to take as they give them free advertising. One time when I was checking into the Disneyland Hotel after using one pen to sign something the CM told me to keep it. She then needed me to sign something else and handed me a new pen and said to keep that one too.

Well, if it's any comfort, it's not just a DCL problem. Our last Alaska cruise (on HAL) we were charged for a water from the minibar. We didn't take anything from the minibar (I have pictures to prove it). Just sent an email and the charge was reversed.

I sailed Fantasy as a first time DCL cruiser at the end of January. On our last night the room host knocked on our door and said "I just remember I didn't give you guys a laundry bag". I didn't even know one was missing. Day 6 of 7 day cruise. This is probably the case for a lot of charges like this. My room host left a lot to be desired though, so I'm not surprised ;) hoping that our service in the room isn't the norm.

I doubt DCL is sytematically trying to charge customers for things they are not doing or stuff they are not taking from the rooms. But you're entlitled to believe whatever crazy things you want to believe.

All the best,

Mike

Since some people are having charges placed on their accounts that belong to someone else, I wonder if anyone has some of their purchases not show up? :woohoo:

They are a really nice cloth bag with DCL logo. I had no idea they charged for them!! At the end of our first cruise, I asked our stateroom attendant if we were allowed to take it and he hesitated for a second and then said, yes. This was right after we had left him a large tip in excess of the recommended amount Um, I think, in retrospect, I may have bribed our stateroom attendant!!

Haha! bribery....
