Charge to transfer points

We asked some friends of ours with extra points that they aren't using if we could transfer them in to our account to make sure we have enough for our trip next May. We need 3 points. We want to pay them for the points. I looked on the rent/trade board, and it seems renting points are going for $10 per point. Would you recommend a similar amount? That seems so cheap - $30 for the points. Do you think a higher amount would be fair? I'm interested in your suggestions.

Thanks!

I think the reason that you are not getting much response is because contractually we are not allowed to pay for transferred points. Some people believe that we are contractually allowed to rent (and some do not!), but it is very clear in your contract that you cannot pay someone for a transfer. And since we are not supposed to do it, discussing how much is moot.

"Members are prohibited from receiving compensation for engaging in any transferring of Vacation Points."

Interesting. Didn't know that. I thought paying our friend would be a kind gesture. May still do it, but may need to settle that between us.

Thanks for enlightening me! :goodvibes

The other problem is that once your friend has transferred points to you, he cannot transfer points into his account for the rest of the year. $10-12 per point is standard. If you only need 3 points, offer the money to your friend. Payment is standard, too, since those points cost money for your friend to buy. And, yes, other than for family, everyone would expect payment for points transferred to someone else's account.;)

I've had points transferred to my account 3 seperate times and paid $10 per point each time. It's one free transfer per use year. This June I had 24 points from one DVC member transferred into 2007 and 100 points into 2008 so that we could have a GV for the week. The transfers were free.

So I want to make sure I understand. My friend can transfer points into my account, but that means she cannot have any points transferred from another person into HERS, correct? I almost read that she cannot bank or borrow points but I think I'm misreading it. Could you confirm for me what you mean? Thanks!

Has nothing to do with banking or borrowing.

Members can make one transfer of points between accounts in a use year. And it doesn't matter if the transfer is in or out. Some people don't like the idea of giving up their once a year opportunity to transfer not knowing what the future may bring, but in 10 years we have never transferred in or out.

Your situation seems a good reason to do it if you both are ok with it.

Take them out to dinner or send them a gift card for their trouble.
