Hi,

Can anyone tell me if Disney take any pre-authorisation on a credit card for charge-backs to the room key? I want to register a card but not use my Fairfx if they pre-authorise. If they do pre-authorise, can you then settle with a different credit card?

Thanks

Hi,
last year at Vero Beach, I gave the desk the details of my fairfx account. They then debited the cost of the room immediately. The rest of our expenditure was debited the night before we left(we opted for the express checkout) However, had we wanted to pay using another card, we could have; but there was a cut off point/time that we had to pay before. As we didn't they debited the card details they held.
Hope this makes sense!

We paid off our room charges on three separate cards - mine, my mum's and my sisters. We just charged everything to the room, so we would only have to make one transaction on each card, rather than loads of little ones, esp as none of us have a card that is fee-free abroad. So that is definitely doable.

Great, thanks. All our accommodation will be paid before we go through DVC points and Disney UK.

Any idea if they took a pre-authorisation for the charge backs? I want to pay it with the Fairfx card but don't want an amount help on it.

I don't think they held anything on our account in April. :confused3 I'm sure that once your account reaches a certain amount ($500 springs to mind, but I'm not 100% sure) they go ahead and charge your card. You can continue shopping, but may have several debits against your card, depending on how much you charge back to your room. :thumbsup2

Yes, it is $500. We hit that mark a couple of times, and when we went to put something on our room key it was rejected. The CMs were always very helpful and got us a phone and called directly through to the resort, so we could authorise for the current room amount to be taken off the bill and debited to the card details we left at check-in.

I don't remember having any holds put on any of our accounts though. I think they just take the details, but don't do anything with it until you hit that $500 mark, or alternatively go to Guest Services and pay it off.

if your planning on using a different card to pay off, make sure you do it the night before you check out as they will charge the one you put up against the room

Brilliant, thank you for the replies.

I know there are different amounts on credit for Value, Moderates etc.

We will be charging back our wedding expenses on the day so will make sure to clear that afterwards. I have also told my parents that all their dining is included for their stay against our booking and I just need to hand over my KTTW. They are retired and I just know my Dad will try and pay for everything if we don't do that! It will be charged back to our room and cleared with our credit card.

Things you do to pay for things for people huh??!!

Disney don't pre-authorize your card as many resorts do, we are currently staying at Wilderness Lodge and used our Fairfx card on our room and also to pay for the DDP when we arrived, we were told when we checked in there was a $1500 limit on the room card before they would charge our Fairfx card.

Does anyone know if you can pay off your KTTW card on a nightly basis rather than at the end of your trip? I think this would be easier for me to keep track of what I was spending every day

Yes, you can pay off the balance on your KTTW card at any point by going to Guest Services at your hotel. Just bare in mind that if you are paying off the balance with your UK debit/credit, you will be charged for each transaction, which is why people try to make as fee payments as possible on their cards. Unless you have the Post Office card, there is always a charge, even, unfortunately, with both the debit and credit card from Nationwide now :(

Alternatively, you could always get a print out every day of what you have spent so far. It will give you a list of each and every purchase that has been made on the card, where it was and how much it was. Perhaps that might be a better solution? You can keep track, but without paying daily charges on your card, and just pay the one fee at the end of the holiday?

It may be me being dim:confused3but what if you haven't got much on your Fairfx card. We are staying AKL and Poly so will have the maximum amount to be credit to the room card but only have $1200 on our Fairfx card, I was going to carry it around to pay for meals but would rather use the room card.

When we were there this past October we stayed in one of the cabins at the FWC and the procedure there was that they swiped our credit card at check in, then every time we reach $500.00 on our room charges, they automatically debited the credit card which we had had swiped at check-in.

Therefore we never had a problem in not been able to use our kttw card as the balance was always available.

Bare in mind though as a previous poster has stated, the resorts all have different kttw limits, ie value alot less than deluxe
