Characters at the Reception

I have a few questions about having characters at the reception: Are they worth it? My fiance is not as big of fan of Disney as I am, and while he's game for having the wedding/reception there (He's seen how beatiful it is, and can't resist :cool1: ) I know many of you have had characters there...would you do it again? How long do they stay, and what do they do? I like the idea of having characters there, for pictures and for the kids...but is it always Minnie and Mickey? Could you have, like, Ariel and Eric there instead? I'm just kinda dreaming on that last one, Ariel, was my favorite princess, and my fiance's name happens to be Eric...anyway, if anyone has an experience they'd like to share, that'd be great.

Here is the list from disneyweddings.com

disney characters - $710 - $1,700

I think you can pick Ariel and Eric. You just have to check with your EM once you have one. I think it is a great idea to have the characters.

My DH did not know I added Mickey & Minnie. It brought tears to his eyes to see them interact with his son Aaron who is wheel chair bound due to cerebral paulsey as well as the rest of his guests. Everybody danced took photos, I even saw my DH kiss Minnie! They stayed about 35 min, I think we paid for 30 min. They signed our signature mat, cut the cake with us too! Best $ we spent!

I decided that a charecter wouldn't be worth it, so we didn't do one.

We had a groomsman who had to cancel at the last minute because of medical reasons. He suprised us by inviting Cinderella to our reception.

We were completely suprised, and boy was I wrong. It was the icing on the cake. Everyone loved it, and the photo oportunities were great.

Not everyone can say that Cinderella came to their reception.....

Mickey and Minnie were a surprise for me...and everyone but the 4 people who knew because my parents couldn't hold the secret anymore. It was incredible. We had Mickey and Minnie for 30 minutes, but they were probably there 45. Knowing what I know now, I would have planned to have them. I think the pair for 30 minutes was a little more than a thousand dollars. I cannot express how worth it was. Everyone loved it!

Gradar1, don’t forget that you can have Streetmosphere characters at your event, too. I had a Hollywood Director, a Gangster, a Gun Moll, a Cowboy, a Cowgirl, and Glinda the Good Witch. Each of them was a hoot and a half and truly made the night both magical and memorable for my family and our guests. Everything that Disney does is always first-rate.

I should note that I also had Mickey Mouse at my event, but I requested that he be attired in his Sorcerer’s Apprentice outfit since we were having an outdoor dance party beneath the Sorcerer’s Hat Icon inside the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park (our main event was inside the Great Movie Ride). So, as you can see, you get to decide what your Disney character(s) wears to your event. The characters have quite a nice selection of outfits. Simply theme their attire to your event as I did (your Event Manager will help you decide what they should wear if you get stumped, have no fear).

To give you an idea as to the different outfits that the characters can wear, I thought I would share a few photos with you. I had the following Mickeys at two of my events:

Grand Floridian Summerhouse Dinner Party: click here
Fairy Tale Weddings Vow Renewal: click here

I also thought I'd share with you some stock photos that were shared with me during the planning of my vow renewal:
Traditional Mickey
Sorcerer Mickey
Director Mickey
(and Donald & Goofy)

As you can probably imagine, Mickey Mouse has many more outfits. There is a Beach Mickey, a Scuba Mickey, a Farmer Mickey, a Safari Mickey, and so on. The same holds true for the rest of the Fab Five (and probably even a few of the other characters, too). Discuss character attire with your Event Manager.

We had Minnie & Mickey, and were worth every single penny!
I could not have imagined my Disney wedding without Minnie & Mickey!
The kids loved it! It was so nice for them to have them all to themselves instead of 10 seconds after having wait in a queue for half an hour!
If I could have afforded more characters I would have a prince & princess too!
Go on go for it!

I think my hubby and I were similar to you two. I LOVE disney and he loves it because it makes me so happy. We had a lot of the "what is goofy going to be your best man" comments and I think in my defense I chose not to have any characters. I said if we had a lot of kids I would, but I just didn't think we had enough kids to do it. I think it would have been awesome to have one come, but I also was trying to do as bare bones as possible. We opted for open bar instead...if you have the extra money, I say go for it!

Thanks, I think when the time comes, if I've got the $$, I'm definitely going to get characters, all I need to do is decide which ones! ;)

We had Sorcerer Mickey during the dancing part of the evening! He was a surprise (as was everything else about our reception) and a big hit!

I don't know if this counts, but we had other GMR characters, like Glinda the Good Witch, a cowboy and cowgirl, male and female gangsters, and a movie producer.

We're thinking of having M & M - do you have a choice of outfits they wear? Can you see pictures of them before you choose?

As far as I am aware, you can have them in usual dress or in wedding attire. That's what we were asked. We chose the wedding attire. They are in my picture below, and looked brilliant!

We've booked Donald, Chip n Dale. I'm the 33 year old child in our wedding party....My H2B knows his place he's already resigned himself to being without bride for 30 mins of the reception.......

does anyone know if the Pooh, Tigger or Eeyore have any formal attire in their wardrobe?

Unfortunately, due to legal reasons, Disney does not allow any Pooh characters to attend wedding events. There are other restrictions, as well, as well as other characters who can come other then those listed above. Your best bet is to tell your WP/WC team who you would like to have and they will tell you if it's possible. For example, I know some have had Stitch, but others couldn't and it was based upon location, timing, etc.

Sorry about last post, Smoof I was wondering if you had mickey and minnie at shades of green or else where and were they the same price as disney

Thanks

Kim

Thanks Kristen, wasn't aware of that. I wanted M & M but Nigel wanted Tigger etc - so I win!!!!
