Does anyone know if you can arrange to have a character in person come to your room to surprise your children?

Yes, you can. Contact your resort and they will put you in touch with the right people. Ask on the Weddings board. A lot of people have characters at their receptions.

I remember that Janet2K had Mickey Mouse at one of her outdoor parties. I believe she went through the events department. You might want to send her a PM and she can give you the phone number. I've heard of the characters at the events, just never one actually coming to the resort room. That might not be an option, but perhaps concierge can recommend somewhere on site to do this type of surprise.

I went to the wedding boards and it appears to be around $1000.00! But that is an actual "event". So, I'm not sure if a 10 minute meeting is available.

I believe 20 minutes would put you in the $750 dollar price range. I'm not sure if there is a minimum time, but only certain characters are available due to licensing issues. It never hurts to ask, just be prepared for sticker shock.
