My childrens first trip to Disney. They are 9 and 12. We want to do one character meal. What do you recommend for their ages. Thanks, Janet

Boys or girls?Of course Cinderells castle for theprincesses and the Liberty Tree Tavern for Dinner has charcaters and the food is very good. Its a family style mealthats very good.

1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian is great!!
Lots of characters for boys and girls both. Mary Poppins is usually in the foyer before you go in . It is a lot easier to get a table here than at the castle. And the buffet breakfast is wonderful.
The castle is nice, atmosphere and all. Geared more for girls, but Aladdin was there too. But my son did enjoyed the princesses too. The food has a lot to be desired though. :)

Check out the menu's before you decide. The food may be the deciding factor.

Crystal Palace did have the best breakfast! Ohana is a little quieter and less crowded, food is great too. Chef Mickey is fun, they twirl napkins over their heads! CRT is so special for the "princess". Our service was great at all of them.

Ohanas at polynesian resort wins hands down with my kids- 9, 12, and 14. Great food, in unlimited quantities, good assortment of characters with Chip and Dale stealing the show, Goofy and others.

Garden Grill in the Land at EPCOT....IMHO it has the best character interaction of any of the meals. Oh, the food is pretty good too. The characters are Mickey, Pluto, Chip, and Dale.

We loved Crystal Palace for dinner, and the food was even really good. The princess breakfasts are a must with little girls; depending on your kids attitudes might be a good fit for them (or terribly embarrassing if they are trying to be "cool" or some other such nonsense). The dinners and luches at Liberty Tree Tavern are also good.

but remember, to get any of the better character meals, try to make the PS exactly at 90 days ahead (and right at 7:00 EST when they open) as this is the only way you can guarantee it; this is especially true of the princess breakfasts at both Cinderella's Royal Table and to a lesser extent the Princess Storybook breakfast at Akershus.

If they are girls I would do the palace or princess storybook, if it's boys/girls I would do Chef Mickey... I loved the food... especially the dessert buffet:earseek:

Garden Grill! The character interaction was incredible and the food was really good, too.

At 9 and 12, I'd vote for Chef Mickey. It's grown up enough for that age and the kids can help themselves.

Our last trip was in Sept '03 and we did both CRT and Chef Mickey's. Our kids are DD 11 and DS 5, we are planning another trip for early Oct '04 and currently the place they are most excited about revisiting (as far as meals go) is Chef Mickey's. They want to do both breakfast and dinner this go around. Last time we just did dinner. They did enjoy both meals, however, as pickey eaters they perferred the buffet style where they could pick exactly what they wanted and how much. CRT is preplated.

Can someone describe what Hoop De Doo is all about- What is the cost for children? Is it a meal and show?

Hoop-de-doo is not a character meal. It is a show with singing, dancing, and a meal. Adults cost $49, not sure about kids. The show would be similar to an old west vaudeville type show. The food is ribs, fried chicken, corn, beans, cole slaw, and strawberry shortcake. It is held at Fort Wilderness in the evenings. It is a fun show, but you will not see characters.
We have always enjoyed 1900 Park Fair at GF. It is a buffet and the food is very good. I did like it better than Cape May. The food at CRT(castle) and Princess breakfast at Norway were OK, but not fantastic.

Garden Grill definitely!! We make a point to go there on every trip!! Last one was for DH and my anniversary. DS (6 and 3/4 LOL) was with us. He had so much fun with the characters. He drew a picture of Chip and Dale. Well, Mickey motioned where was he? Son said that they were his favorite!! LOL!! Mickey wrote "Mickey Rules and Chip Drools!" LOL!! Needless to say this got a huge laugh out of him.

Also he wasn't eating his food. So Mickey sat down and fed him for a good 5 minutes. It was very good character interaction.

I will never forget the time about 2 years ago. DH and I took a adults only trip!! Well, we ate there again!! Well, Pluto came up behind DH and pretended like he was going to lick him. I started laughing so hard I choked on my soda!! LOL!!

Plus I have a very picky eater in my son!! Only eats a very few things!! LOL!!Chicken nuggets are one thing and so is mac and cheese!! That is a big factor in it.

I would vote for Chef mickey also. Easy to get to and worth the money. I would NOT do Mickey Backyard B.B.Q it was horrible. The location, food and everything i just though stunk! It was a waste of money and time.
Garden grill Ice cream social and of course a princess meal if you can get in! ::MinnieMo
